I am configuring FSRM Quotas as well as File Screen. Whenever I click on "Define Custom Properties", the error message pops up. There is no CLSID in Event Viewer. The message is "An unexpected error occured in the FSRM MMC snap-in Exception has been thrown by the target.. " Tried remove and reinstall features, restart etc ... but I still cannot modify any settings beyond the templates. My VMs are not connected to the internet and just out of box and no special configuration except has a private switch to communicate with other 2 VM servers submitted by /u/mossburger55 [link] [comments] Continue reading...

2025 GA explorer crashes
by Guest /u/Wild_Appearance_315- 0 replies

Anyone else starting to poke around with the GA version of 2025 yet? I've tried making a template in our ESXi environment and it seems to have some pretty flakey behavior after logging in - Just get a black screen and explorer crashes, exception code xxx409. Attempting to run explorer.exe from task manager fails in the same way. I though it might have been something I was doing to the image, like installing libreoffice, so I cooked up another fresh VM / template with only vmware tools and the already available windows updates for 2025; same result, but it made it to creating a domain before it started doing it (after another reboot) - absolutely cooked. Next attempt w…

Cannot Apply Cumulative Updates to Windows Server with SQL installed
by Guest /u/Perfect-Rise2780- 0 replies

I don't usually reach out for help, but I am pretty stuck on this one. I manage 100+ Windows Servers, ranging from 2016 to 2022. Updates are pushed out through SCCM. This is not a new setup and has been working reliably for a few years now. I did recently note a few servers that had failed to upgrade, as of the September CU. I first noticed that these servers all had MS-SQL (various versions) running, and were on Server 2022. I did find another one today, Server 2016 with SQL, same issue The error is: "2024-09 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5043051) - Error 0x80070005" My research says that this is a permissions …

Hey all, I want to build a small Windows NLB cluster for Navision which consists of two VMs. Both have one NIC configured and I'm a bit unsure, whether I have to use unicast or multicast or multicast (IGMP)? If I read it correctly best way would be multicast (IGMP), but what do I have to configure on the vCenter side? submitted by /u/Agile_Pop8628 [link] [comments] Continue reading...

DNS Issue
by Guest /u/Smarthomeinstaller- 0 replies

I have a virtual DNS server at location A Between location A and B I have a VPN tunnel and rules to send traffic through said tunnels. When at location A I am able to route to the internal sites via DNS resolution. When at location B I cannot get the resolution for the same sites. Router configuration is the same on both sites with exception to the dhcp tables. When using nslookup at site B I get pic one. I can ping the DNS server as well as RDP to it when at site B. Any insights would help. submitted by /u/Smarthomeinstaller [link] [comments] Continue reading...

Windows Update - Cannot install updates.
by Guest /u/geegol- 0 replies

Good evening, Before I explain the issue, I should mention that this is a part of a lab environment and not a production environment, as I am learning Windows Server. OS Version: Server vNEXT (2024). I am attempting to install updates, and as I try to check for updates and install them, they fail to install. My first instinct is to restart the Windows update service and try again. As I open services.msc, I get a UAC prompt that says, "An administrator has blocked you from running this app. For more information contact the administrator. mmc.exe." There is no way for me to approve the prompt as the only button is "close". I immediately began to check to see if the…

Can AI help solve IT errors?
by Guest /u/Extra-Bridge4433- 0 replies

Hi all. I am working as an IT infra system engineer. (OS, Backup, Server H/W, etc) I've never paid for and used AI before, so I'd love to hear your thoughts before I subscribe. I want to use ChatGPT or another AI for troubleshooting errors. I know AI helps generate code. So, Can AI help solve IT errors? Or do you think AI is not yet good enough to understand errors and provide appropriate answers? In my work, I come across a lot of errors, and when I don't understand an error, it's natural to Google it. But now, with the help of AI, we're hoping to save time and get more accurate answers. What do you guys think? Any feedback is great, thank you.…

Why hasn’t Server Manager changed?
by Guest /u/FreshFroiz- 0 replies

It’s been over 13 years since the Server Manager was redesigned. Since Windows 11 has brought UWP, and many apps are being made with it (settings, terminal, start menu), why hasn’t the Server Manager got an update. Not complaining, I’m happy with it as is, but why is it so inconsistent. submitted by /u/FreshFroiz [link] [comments] Continue reading...

Installing SharePoint 2019 but won’t launch Farm Configuration Wizard…

We were just approved for Server 22, so I took this as a chance to build a fresh SharePoint server. My domain is fully air gapped from the internet so everything has to be brought onto the domain via removable hard drives and ISOs. I have had several problems getting this all to work with the base ISO for server22 not having the 3.5 .NET framework or even a /sources/sxs location. I have build my sqlexpress2019 server on the same machine and I have given my SharePoint service account all of the propane roles both locally and in sql. Each time I try to launch the farm configuration wizard it is saying that I cannot run this due to a similar task already being performe…

I've been trying to set up a dns server on windows 2022 through a virtual machine but it doen't really work outside of the virtual machine. When I ping the Domain inside the VM it reponds fine with the right IP address. When I try to ping the domain on the computer hosting the VM it doesn't wokr at all. Then when I try to ping a specfic host under the domain it works fine in the VM but brings back a different IP when I ping it using the host computer. So I'm not sure what I did wrong asnd it been driving up the wall trying to figure it out. More Details: The server has a static ip, both the VM and server are on the same ethernet connection, the vm is connected to the inte…
