Volume Licensing?
by Guest Jimmy Mac- 3 replies

Hello - We have a small network which had been originally deployed on new systems using Microsoft Volume Licensing and an over the network deployment of an NT image. Over the years, while we had the licensing and SA, we moved to 2K and eventually to XP - However, since those days, we began to deploy new OEM Dell systems with XP. Now, we have about 50 OEM XP systems and only a couple of the systems are using our old XP volume licenses. I have been looking into the purchase of new systems from Dell but without an OS. My Dell rep is trying to tell me that unless we purchase a system with at lease XP home on it, we cannot use out VOLP licenses we OWN to…

RAM help!
by Guest The Mexican- 23 replies

I am having a problem with the memory not being recongnized. I have 4gb installed in my system, but when I go to view how much memory windows "sees," it only shows 3gb. I have 2 video cards that would take 256 each (a total of 512) so I believe that memory would go there, but what happened to the rest? Also, when I turn on (or restart) the computer, the memory check shows 4096 so I know that the bios does "see" all 4gb. Any suggestions? Thanks in advanced!

How to select my Semibold font
by Guest Agnar Renolen- 2 replies

I have installed the OpenType font family "MyriadPro" on my computer. I need to use the "Myriad Pro Semibold" face. Adobe Illustrator correctly recognizes this font, but in 'standard Windows programs', such as Microsoft Word, this font can not be selected. I'm trying to find anything about this on the net, but to my surprise I can't find anything. Agnar Renolen, Norway

Remove Integrated Sound Card?
by Guest LMO- 8 replies
Aloha. My Dell XPS 410 came with an integrated sound card (built in to the MB). It's a SigmaTel card, but they no longer support it. The card doesn't even show up as a hardware device, only the SigmaTel Codec shows up, but not the drivers. I bought a new sound card, but it will not work. I am assuming I must first remove anything connected with the integrated sound card. How do I do that when it doesn't show up as a device? Dell will not help, as I wiped Vista and installed XP. Thank you.

Standyby Fails
by Guest PT- 13 replies

For no particular reason, my computer (WinXP Home) suddenly won't stay in standby mode. When I give it the command (Start| Turn Off| Standby), it shuts off as expected. But about five seconds later it wakes itself up. I used to have this problem which back then was caused by a flawed HP printer driver. I'd get a message to the effect that this driver was preventing Standby. If I shut off the printer before giving the standby command, the computer would stay shut off. Subsequently, HP updated and fixed the driver. The problem now occurs with no external drives nor printer turned on. Please advise. -- PT

RE: White bar on startup My question is how to get rid of it? Because that white bar shows up it takes like 5-6 minutes to start up my computer. Awhile back for some reason the bar quit showing up and I had quick start up and quick restarts and now all of a sudden the white bar came back and it's once again a 5-6 minute start up again. Thanks for any help. My parents purchased a digital camera which did not support ME. I installed XP. The files are there, but the programs have disappeared. It tries to open them in wordpad & gives odd symbals. Please advise how I can get the programs back. It also took away Outlook express. Thanks in advance, -- Joe

Importing Forte Agent messages and attachments to Outlook Express
by Guest Gord McFee- 9 replies
I am new to XP and am looking for a way to import Forte Agent messages and attachments into Outlook Express. I can import the messages by saving all the Forte folders as Unix files, importing them into Eudora 3.06 and then importing from there into Outlook Express. But the attachments are all lost - pictures show up as gibberish. Does anyone know of a way to import the messages *and* the attachments? Thanks. -- Best regards Gord McFee

When repairing my XP Pro SP2 NTFS using the install cd with SP2 slipstreamed, after copying files, initialising config and the first system reboot it comes to the "files needed" error as mentioned in MS KB311755. It also freezes the keyboard and mouse. I tried to solve the problem (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311755) using: Method 1: "press SHIFT+F10 to start a command session" nothing happens for the KB and mouse are dead. Method 2: proceed successfully but same error comes up again after system restarts, returns to groung zero. Method 3: I start the "Recovery Console" with a retail (Boxed) cd with a hologram and come to the command prompt C:\w…
