Messenger open twice?
by Guest Mary- 2 replies

Is it possible to have 2 copies of Windows Live Messenger open at the same time? I have 2 Hotmail accounts and would like to monitor both without having to manually switch between personalities. If I have Messenger open then click on the icon again it tries to install Messenger(although it's already installed and running!) - not open it again. Any help appreciated. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

IE 7 - everytime closes
by Guest MSExchangeStudent- 3 replies

Hi all I have IE 7 on my xp pro pc. I'm used to right-click on a link and then use the "open in a New Window" option. My problem is say for example i have IE 7 open with 5 tabs in a window and i have a second window also open and i close the second window meaning the first one with the 5 tabs must obviously stay open then i get the message of "...the program has encountered a error and needs to close.." then all my IE 7 windows closes which is obviously very frustrating as i work with multiple internet windows at a time. Should i go back to IE 6 or is there a fix for this? Craig

When is user GPO applied if not modified ?
by Guest guruperplexe- 0 replies
Hi, I have set a user GPO which defines the IE settings (proxy settings, in fact). This is a domain GPO. This GPO applies well on each user and each computer. But when I manually change the IE settings, and then log off and log on, I was expecting that the IE settings would revert to the ones set by the GPO .... and I see that my manual settings are still there. I have to run a "gpupdate /force" command to get the GPO settings. Is it normal ? Do I really have to issue a gpupdate /force at each login script to ensure that the domain GPO is applied ? Thanks for your help !

Não consigo apagar eMail SPAM
by Guest Luís Pires- 0 replies

Obrigado

How to remove windows messenger?
by Guest monty1945@lycos.com- 4 replies

I have an old computer that I want to sell to a neighbor. It has MSN's Window's Messenger 4.7 (4.7.3001), from 2004. If I start it up, it immediately logs me in, and I can't find any way to make it start up with no email address or password, despite not checking where it asks if you want it to remember your password. I also noticed that it's not listed in add/remove programs, so I can't do that either. How do I either delete the program or just my personal information (and of course I don't want it to sign me in automatically?) Thanks.

Backing up XP
by Guest Terry- 1 reply

When I do C:\Documents and Settings\Terry. I can see my settings. >From what I understand this is where most all programs store its settings. I know it will not save the programs but will it store data it has stored on my behalf. When I pick XP backup (normal) does it get all of this data by default? I would like to save this stuff, but I would like to make it as small as I can. Deleting recent documents and cookies and temporary files first will get most of it from what I understand. I would like to do it on my niece's machine and wipe her hard drive out. She has so much crap and popups on her computer I would just like to start over. I have told …

by Guest AceViper- 1 reply

My brother recently tried to create a recovery USB Drive for his computer. after trying to do that and went to restart his computer it could not find an OS on the primary drive. I put the drive in my computer and everything seemed to be intact. i booted it normally off one off one of my hard drives then looked at the stored information that way. the windows folder still seemed intact. We've looked into his bios and made sure the boot priority was correct. I backed up his important stuff on my large SATA HDD. i did not backup his whole drive however. the windows folder was not saved. since my computer that was using the SATA HDD is now down. i cannot recove…

Quick Launch Toobar doesn't load on startup in Windows XP Pro
by Guest Gary McC- 13 replies

The quick launch tool bar is installed and working. I can start it from the Task Bar, but when I shut down my computer, it doesn't seem to save the setting. It has worked for years, but now I have to manually start the Quick Launch tool bar after I boot up. I have two other user profiles on this computer and they both work fine, and load on startup. Any ideas? Have tried deleting the Quick Launch tool bar, and creating a new one, but iit didn't help. This occurred around the time I installed PC Tools Spyware Doctor so I did a System Restore back to before I installed it and it made no difference. I also followed MS bulletin 55525, but it didn't…

Memory problem
by Guest upperclass- 4 replies

Hi all, I'm sorry if this post doesn't fit in this group. Any advice is appreciated. I'm running a program on cygwin in Windows XP and the program sometimes crashed because it used too much memory. The problem is that any programs that get run (by a script) after the crash becomes much slower than they usually are. My understanding is that somehow the memory was swapped out to disk during the first run (that crashed) and never quite recover. Is there a way to clean up this mess so that subsequent runs of any program do not suffer from the memory problem of earlier runs. Of course, I'm looking for a solution that can be automated (like a command or sthg…

XP desktop & quick launch (?)
by Guest waynej- 6 replies

Whenever I send a link to the desktop, one is also put on the quicklink (I think that's what it's called). [Or where desktop clicks require two clicks the "quicklink" only requires one click.] My question is how to I only put the link on the desktop? When I delete a link from desktop or quicklink, it is deleted in both places also. Thanks.
