I removed a drive containing data not associated with the Win XP OS. Windows won't start any more. even though I replaced the Sata drive that I removed. I get the message that the Windowsroot system32\ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt or missing. I tried to find this file to replace it but the one I found isn't an exe file. Please help. Slipstream SP2
by Guest Todd- 6 replies

I am going to re-install Windows XP on my machine and found a website explaining how to slipstream SP2 with my Windows XP CD but the link it provided for SP2 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en is over 3 years old. I was curious if there is a newer version of the SP2 patch with all the latest patches already in it so I can save more time than having to download the rest of the patches, I believe this is over 100. Thanks!

Synchronization was not working correctly on users laptop, newly created/changed files made offline were not showing up after synch occurred even though no errors were reported. Reinitialized the Offline cache and then new files/folders created while offline did in fact synch and show up correctly. Is there an explanation as to why the reinitialization is needed ? Is there anyway to determine when it is needed so users don't do a bunch of offline work only to find out it won't synch ? Just trying to eliminate irate users who spend hours working offline on presentations only to have them "lost" when synch does not work . Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Reformatting a Flash Drive
by Guest Sandy- 0 replies

I have a flash drive that was originally formatted using UStorageTool. It has a public and private (secured area). I deleted all the files from the secured area and then changed the partitions to be 99% public. I want to reformat the drive with another security tool, but it would not let me. So I ran a Windows quick format on the device, and then copied the new tool format to the flash drive. Everytime I run a formatting tool it says "USB device not ready or not Administrator". Even logging in as Admin does not allow me to get into the USB flash device. I can see it and access files on it, but I cannot reformat it with a tool such as SimpleSafe. A…

I am running XP (SP 2), Outlook 2002, SP 3 and Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180. I tried to install Windows desktop Search 3.01 and cannot get it to index either email program. I have searched Google and the Microsoft site and can't find any situation where is won't index either. Has anyone heard of this kind of problem, and if so, if it can be resolved and how? Thanks. -- Best regards Gord McFee

Paging e rallentamenti
by Guest OldVitt- 14 replies

In tale momento potete vedere applicazioni e processi in http://i22.tinypic.com/3502dt1.jpg e…

Network printer works but says "access denied"
by Guest shawndiaz- 0 replies
This is a very strange situation. A network printer installed from the Server is accessible by anyone in the department, but when it is viewed it says "access denied, cannot connect" but it still prints the documents submitted to it. Also, a local printer installed on a users PC is shared out to be listed in the directory, but everytime you try to add it to another users PC it asks for a password. What the heck!!?? It worked fine and now it can't do anything. It's very frustrating for myself and my boss. All running XP Pro SP2 on a Server 2003 R2 domain. -- Horsepower

Lighten WinXP ? 1 2
by Guest Eugenia- 26 replies

Is it possible to have WinXP lightened up; to have only two accounts ? To remove entirely - along with all associated folders, etc. - any excess *useless/needless* accounts ? I'm the only user; no-one else uses or will ever use this machine. I've heard that one must keep the "guest account". <roll-eyes>. One probably should need to maintain both an Admin account (OK) and one other account. Is this true ? I see in D:\Documents and Settings: Admin All Users Default User LocalService NetworkService and finally, "my user name" (my 'account') Anyway, there seems to be a excess of bloat I don't want or will ever need as far as "users" and accounts. …

Accounts.
by Guest The_Newb_Avenger- 4 replies

I don't know my brother's password for his account, nor will he ever tell me. Also, I know how to make it so that you don't have to input a password; though I don't want that. Um, basically, is there any way I could view what is in his Recycle Bin? I remember he deleted some of my stuff, but didn't delete it from the Recycle Bin (or fully, I guess you could say). And it was some pretty important stuff, too. ;_; I could view his Documents and the like, but that's about as far as I could go. I could also view his Desktop, but his Recycle Bin isn't there. Any help? Thanks in advance.

XP Pc identity...
by Guest Larry Mauriello- 7 replies

Someone just gave me an old pc. I am looking to clean it up and give it to someone w/o a pc. When I boot it up it comes up w/the name/pswd scrren. The person who had it doesn't even remember the password. Hitting esc.it seems to load up. I can see the drives and all. I haven't tried connecting to an ISP yet. I am curious if there is a way to get it to start w/o that sign-on prompt w/o loading the OS all over? It is an AMD K6 cpu. w/what looks like 312Meg RAM and a 25GB HD. I don't think it's a bad machine for someone who never had a pc. Outside of the fact it had this HUGE CRT monitor (17').. Thanks for the feedback.

Logoff and screen goes blank- why?
by Guest John66- 0 replies

I am using Win XP pro SP2. I have several accounts set up on the PC. Things are in general working fine with the exception of logging off - previously haven't had any problems for a long time. I have had things set up so that I can swtich between users. That part seems to work just fine. However, if I log out of an account the account appears to be logging out and then the screen goes blank rather than going back to the login screen (with the user icons showing). I have to power off the pc and reboot to get things running again. I am not sure what has happened software-wise to cause this. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem so I can act…
