Deleting files on Compact Flash Cards
by Guest Spanky deMonkey- 2 replies

I am running XP SP2 with all the MS updates. I have an internal card reader USB 2.0 enhanced, and when I insert my 8GB card into the reader, I can copy files to the HDD pretty quick. When it's time to delete off the card, it takes forever. For instance I deleted 127 files (JPEG) and it took 66 seconds. I tried to delete 394 (JPEG) files about 1.5GB and it took 4 minutes, 29 seconds. Why so long? I thought when files are deleted, the FAT table is erased and the files left alone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

WindowsXP Home SP2 laptop. Start menu no longer displays any recently-used applications. I checked the properties; the settings are correct to display up to 16 applications. I tried turning this feature off; rebooting, and turning this feature on again. The issue remains. Is there a registry setting to check? Cheers, ~ Mark

Driver Help, screen replacement
by Guest ronnienospamholland@sbcglobal.net- 3 replies

Help!! My son, and kids came down for the weekend, and brought their injured Dell Inspiron 6400. Seems my grandaughter sprayed it with water. After they had a friend check it out, it was determined that only the screen was fried, and their friend had a dead Dell Inspiration 6000 with a good screen and they bought it. They brought it all to me (for unknown reasons ;} ) and I swapped out the screens. Darn if it didn't work! Problem is that when Windows XP Pro boots up, only 2/3 of the screen is working, and 1/3 rd of the screen looks like it is blank. So I've got a normal looking graphical view on a wide screen, that is Left Justified. I went into device mana…

I think my computer hates me
by Guest RyanH- 5 replies

For the past few days my computer has had no sound. It fairly new about two weeks old. I just woke up one day and there was no sound when I started it up. I tried all the basic stuff like rebooting checking connections, etc.. but no luck. I asked around the discussion boards here and tried some of their advice but still no luck. Finally I got desperate and reinstalled Windows XP (wanted to do this anyone since I was having lots of other minor annoyances with Vista) and still nothing. Finally after connecting the speakers to the front headphone jack I got sound out of the left speaker. So the next day I went out and spent 30 bucks on a new sound card. But a…

Probably after an update my computer doesn't recognize the mixing device anymore. There is no sound anymore. The soundcard is allright, de drivers are new. In the System Devices section of the Control Panel the soundcard is recognized and works properly. The problem is not mentioned in the Knowledgebase of Microsoft but I found somenone with the same problem on the internet. He asked help on the internet and someone saild the problem is the Windows Audio Service. (Windows Audio Properties) Usualy it starts au…

File Encryption Woes....
by Guest Rabid man- 3 replies

I'm using axcrypt with xp64 and it works as file encryption should work - however, I get an error "taking to long to open" which is more annoying than anything...but seems to cause so file save problems... Don't think there is a fix for this, using the latest version 1.6.3 and have played with compatibility settings For the last 2 nights I have downloaded and installed 15+ encryption programs and frankly I'm at a loss to the lack of logic. None of these programs is slick and automated... I want to be able to do the following.... right click a file and select encrypt, enter a password When I later access the file, I want to double click it and be promp…

by Guest shmulikalef- 3 replies

Hi, Xp Pro(and Vista Ultimate)Intel Dual Core 2 Giga memory. I have 5 USB Hubs connected (USB 2) - Total 27 USB connection from Hubs and 4 on the Tower. According to the entire publications one computer can be connected by chain to 127 USB connections. So that +- 20-31 Hubs. The question how I can give a label or a name to each Hub? If you connect storage (Disk on key, hard drive, and ctr.) each of the component has a label on the time that connected. But sometimes I receive error about USB hub and is a long story to find which one is wrong. In the device manager all of them the same name. I wrote on all of them a special label and the same name on the USB …
