ActiveXs won't download :-(
by Guest Lars-Erik Østerud- 1 reply

When pages need an ActiveX they tell me to answer yes to the yellow information bar, but the information bar doesn't display :-( I have tried to check all settings and all seems right. Had the same problem on my laptop, diffappeared when installing IE7 (but for several reasons I sdon't want to install that here). Also, if I go to the page on the other PC, and install the ActiveX there, then I can copy the files from that PCs "Downloaded Program Files" to the problematic PCs "Downloaded Program Files" and then do a "regsvr32" on the ActiveX component. THEN it works like it should when acciessing the page. So it's not that ActiveX is not allowed. It is …

Processor listed twice
by Guest Smirnoff- 2 replies

Looking in Device manager under Processors, I notice that Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.20GHz is listed twice. Both have almost identical info under Properties and both show "This device is working properly. The only difference is under Details which shows 0 or 1 at the end: ACPI\GENUINEINTEL_-_X86_FAMILY_15_MODEL_4\_0 ACPI\GENUINEINTEL_-_X86_FAMILY_15_MODEL_4\_1 Why would my CPU be listed twice and as it is, why is neither showing a conflict?

Remove Integrated Sound Card?
by Guest LMO- 3 replies

Aloha. My Dell XPS 410 came with an integrated sound card (built in to the MB). It's a SigmaTel card, but they no longer support it. The card doesn't even show up as a hardware device, only the SigmaTel Codec shows up, but not the hardware. I bought a new sound card, but it will not work. I am assuming I must first remove anything connected with the integrated sound card. How do I do that when it doesn't show up as a device? Dell will not help, as I wiped Vista and installed XP. Thank you.

Can't download Windows XP Pro SP2 startup disks from MSN.

At the MSN site, it says that you will be prompted to insert new floppies when necessary, but what happens is that it tries to install everything on one disk, and then I get the message that there isn't enough room. Anybody know what could be wrong? And could I also save the file to my HD, then write it to a CD, making a startup CD? Thanks.

From time to time in my email I get included pictures that display as an empty frame with a little red x in the top left hand corner. This happens in both my AOL account and my Verizon inbox so it doesn't seem to be associated with the email software. I am using XP Pro Any ideas?

by Guest dee- 4 replies

some of the problems i have had. When i have clicked on something in a drop down box it will select whats on the page underneath. I have clicked the back button on IE and it goes back twice, i have played games and it selects more than one thing on the screen, when selecting tick boxes it wont select until after a few tries. This is very annoying as its takes me ages to get anything done. I would appreciate any help and advice on whats causing this and how to remedy it.

grc.com | ne.dll
by Guest RJK- 2 replies

Anyone researched the use of this dynamic link library used by Steve Gibsons website | Shields Up facility which, appears to alter IE7's Internet Zone security setting, (when URL changes to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 ), i.e. the Internet Zone slider disappears and "Custom Settings" have taken effect ? regards, Richard ps ...asked this a while ago and got shouted at by one or two people who instantly rushed to the defense of Steve Gibson but, when I asked them to replicate the above effect, they then remained strangely quiet, and were never heard from again.

Odd user folders
by Guest Tony Luxton- 2 replies

Hello Group. I've noticed (since comparing with a second XP machine) that I've got strange user profile folders in "Documents & Settings" - Default User.WINDOWS All Users.WINDOWS "Windows" is in caps as I've written. The normal "Default User" and "All Users" folders also exist, but they don't seem to have been accessed since the machine was built. All the shared documents you'd expect (documents, user data, etc.) are contained in the ".WINDOWS" folders. Another clue: if I right-click the start button, and select "open all users", I am in "All Users.WINDOWS\Start Menu". User-specific stuff is in the relevant user folders, as normal. It's not a…

Hi, I was cleaning up my temporary internet files today and I managed to delete everything except a few cookies. Later, I was opening up an attachment from my MS outlook (2003) and saw that it was being temporarily opened from a sub-folder "OLK6" within temporary internet files folder (checed using save as feature). But, when I navigated to temporary internet files folder I couldnt see any "OLK6" folder. It was surprising because I have hidden folder view turned on. Then, I manually typed in the address of OLK in IE and strangely could get in to the desired location. So why doesnt the Temporary Internet Files folder display OLK6 by default? hp
