Video question

Not sure how to frame this query but here's the problem: When trying to view videos (such as news items or Youtube) it proceeds in fits and starts; freezes for several seconds then continues. Ordinary video dvds play OK though. Is there some setting I should adjust or what? System: Win XP Home SP2 Athlon 64 3400+ Radeon 9600 1 GB RAM Regards and thanks in advance Pat Macguire

I only noticed this the other day when I decided to do a disk check. It won't complete the check and hangs on:- CHKDSK is verifying indexes (stage 2 of 3) and stays at 0 percent. I've done all scans for any nasties and everything is clear so I am not sure how to sort this out. Please could you tell me what to do to fix this problem please? Many thanks in advance UKuser007

Norton - Office XP conflict
by Guest MarkSolly- 13 replies

I'm in the dog box at the moment and need some help getting out. I recently downloaded a few months worth of XP updates. These somehow managed to corrupt Norton Internet Security to the point where my computer would basically just freeze anytime Norton activated to scan something. I tried to uninstall Norton - have used add/remove, the norton uninstall tool, had three diff't people from Norton tech support unsuccessfully try to fix this too - all to no avail. The problem now is that any time I open a MS Word or Excel file, a message comes up at the bottom left of screen "requesting virus scan". But Norton is corrupted and basically gone, so the PC h…

Inserting a blank disk in RW drive reboots PC!
by Guest Nigel Andrews- 13 replies
I am recently finding my PC re-boots when I insert even any blank DVD in the DVDwriter!! I find then that the PC will keep re-booting until I eject the DVD. Then it seems only if I push the DVD draw (with DVD) back in at a certain point in the boot sequence will it continue to boot up to normal. Before or after that and it will reboot again.. and again! It doesn't happen every time I put a disc in, even if the conditions (apps running etc.) are the same. I don't seem to have autoplay set on this drive, so I don't know why it is even bothering when I load a DVD. Please can anybody help? Thanks Nigel

need help removing rightclick menu options
by Guest Tim.T- 3 replies
I removed some software a while ago, I think it was called Dskchecker. When I rightclick a drive in My Computer, the following items appear in the rightclick menu. I think they refer to that program: Check C:\ with file method Check C: with direct method Read disk C: image WRITE disk C: image The program itself is nowhere on my PC, it's not installed to any folder, nor does it appear in Add\Remove Programs. These options only appear when selecting a drive; they are specific context menu options. I've looked at the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers but "dskchkr.exe" isn't among them. I removed all the subkeys on that key to see if…

Linksys wireless network monitor in windows xp...
by Guest SpreadTooThin- 0 replies

I had to install the network drivers for the linksys wireless card... WRT54GX. When you install the drivers it also installes a configuration manager and wireless network monitor that you select your preferred networks and wireless security options. I noticed that the monitor is started in the start menu start programs folder. I noticed that it only installed it for my user and no other user on the machine. If you don't have it installed in your startup then when you log in to XP you won't have internet. So I put a copy in each users start up. I log out and log into another user and yep all's good. However if I fast user switch the system crashes. Any sugg…
