Is Linux A Joke? It's free so why are so few using Linux? 1 2

Easy question to answer once you have actually tried Linux. I just finished tossing a Ubuntu CD in the trash because that is where it belongs. Now I truly understand why Linux can't seem to break into the desktop market. Linux sucks. The programs look like something Windows had 15 years ago with Windows 3.1. The help system is non existant. The fonts are terrible. The graphics support is terrible. There is no Direct-X 10 support. The interface is crude and slow. My printer wasn't even recognized (Lexmark). My widescreen monitor came up with an out of range box sqaure in the middle of the screen instead of the 1440x960 it should be. Some application calle…

Re: Does linux support my new widescreen monitor 1 2 3

Re: Does linux support my new widescreen monitor Linux should support it. Making it actually work is an entirely different kettle of fish. There is a reason why Newegg and other manufacturers don't bother certifying Linux to work with their hardware and that is the market for Linux is so small it isn't worth wasting the glue for the sticker on. A friends computer......XP Home SP2. His wallpaper is plain black.(not by choice). In Display Properties, highlighting a wallpaper does not work and the arrow keys to move the wallpaper list of choices up and down does not work. Everything else in Display Properties works. This may be related to installing IE7. He also was getting an error on startup.....The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be found in PSAPI.DLL. (Not exactly word for word but close). After searching the internet I renamed all the PSAPI.DLL fills (except those in system32). The error message no longer shows on startup. I mention this incase it's related to …

Hi, every time I boot up I have a balloon which tells me I have files waiting to be written to CD. Firstly. how do I remove the files waiting in the "files waiting to be written to CD" folder. (presumably this will stop the balloon appearing) Secondly, at boot up we also have several balloons appear one after another telling us that the wireless network is connected etc How do I stop them appearing. Many thanks Steve

Taskbar frozen; Notification are alive but not responsive
by Guest FriendlyDutch- 5 replies

On Windows XP Pro SP2, my taskbar has started freezing completely. The rest of Explorer is working: i can launch new Folder windows, desktop is responsive. I am running WIndows Update automatically, so should be up to date. C:\windows\Explorer.exe is version 6.00.2900.3156 (xpsp_sp2_gdr.070613-1234), dated 13 June 2007, 11:23:07 (UK local time). I can kill (all) and relaunch explorer.exe which gives me functionality back for a little while until it hangs again - the clock in notification area stops when this happens. I do connect both using remote desktop as well as local console sessions, switching between the two. I read that there is a known problem …

Copying from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Problem
by Guest kenjenningism- 1 reply

I'm using a Cruzer Micro 4.0 GB USB drive to copy files from a Windows 2000 machine to XP. It recognized the flash drive, it copied the files as well. But when I went to the XP computer, I don't see any files in the USB drive. Is there a compatibility issue, or something needs to be updated, or what? Thanks in advance
