Cant get to Net via LAN; only via DialUp in I/E6
by Guest Nak- 1 reply

My friend has a portable Compaq M2037AP and always some problems with it he brings to me. I think he or someone may have changed some setting in I/E6 options because now he can not access the Net via our LAN. The Dial Up window keeps coming up. However, when we try the FireFox browser, it goes onto the Net immediately. I've checked all the IE6 settings and they seem normal. What could the problem be? Thank you for your help in advance, -- Nak

hello I have windows xp service pack 2. I have a sound blaster audigy soundcard (not SE or 2) along with 2 boston acoustics speakers and a subwoofer. what I am trying to do is get a generic white microphone from an old computer to work on this one. It has worked before, but I have replaced the motherboard since. Anyway on the right speaker there is a port for mic as well as headset, yet the comp doesnt recognize the mic when i plug it in. I have everything unmuted and my soundcard drivers updated to the best of my knowledge. I do have a logitech webcam that has a mic as well, that works but I prefer not using that one for various reasons. so i disab…

unexpected keyboard settings change in RDP session
by Guest egalois- 0 replies

Several times now, I have been typing and my keyboard and keys, suddenly and seemingly randomly, start applications or activities that are completely unrelated. For example the "e" key opens windows explorer window. Coincidentally, the Navigator feature in windows (an accessibility tool that narrates all my typing) starts everytime, not sure what i'm typing that triggers it. I'm always surprised as I have only been typing as usual when it suddenly switches into this bizarre behaviour. However, this always happens when I connect through RDP to one particular server or... to my office PC (again, via RDP). If I close the session abruptly, and then reco…

It's even easier than that. All you have to do is SPAM comp.os.linux.advocacy with tens of thousands of mostly off topic artilces each month like Roy Schestowitz does. Make certain to put your website in your sig and voila hits galore. Pirate copyrighted graphics to spiffy up the site and get even more hits. Of course his profit margin was greater when he was abusing his c…

Lost partition
by Guest greymat@my-deja.com- 3 replies

When I went to bed last night, my disc looked like this: EISA 7.8GB rescue - C: 20.31GB NTFS - D: 20GB FAT32 - [x F:10GB - freespace 20.3GB - s:70GB] (primary partitions except [x.] extended partition). When I booted up this morning, it looked like this: EISA 7.8GB rescue - C: 20.31GB NTFS - D: 20GB NTFS - [x F:10GB - freespace 90.89GB] The lost partition contains all my data, and was an NTFS volume. The only thing that happened in between was installing WinXP on D: and using EasyBCD to try and add an entry to the vista bcd, but I didn't think that should mess with the MFT. Is my partition retrievable? My data is not so valuable that I would stret…
