Picture and Fax Viewer Saving Pictures From Internet Browsing
by Guest Kerturner- 1 reply

Using Windows XP SP2. The windows picture and fax viewer is saving pictures, banners, logos and whatever while I browse the web. They are not being saved in the pictures file. The only time I can find all of this saved stuff is when I receive e-mails with attached jpeg or tif files. When I open the attached picture file, that image comes up and then when I arrow or scroll left or right I see all of these other images. I can delete them, but the next time I receive another e-mail with an attached picture, I find more new things in the picture and fax viewer. Please help! -- Kerturner

I am running xp sp2. This morning when I started the computer a pop up "Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows" came up saying "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program" referencing "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services". Then a second pop up "svchost.ext - Application Error" came up saying "The instruction at 0x7e030af2 referenced memory at 0x7e030af2. The memory could not be written.". I clicked the "ok" button of the second pop up to close it, after which the windows tool bar on the bottom of the screen stops functioning. I closed Outlook which autostarted, but it still shows on the windows tool bar. The start butto…

Hi, i wanted to see if there is a way to disable on the server print confirmations being sent to the client, either by a server setting or a gpo, does anyone know of a way to do that? Also, i noticed that when the printserver went down due to a hardware failure all of the connected clients became very slow and the ms office apps would also be really slow or crash, has anyone seen this before? thanks Scott

Sometimes the only way to shut my computer off is to logg off and go to the log off screen and click on shut down computer? Sometime the computer will take up to 30 minutes to shut off when I click shut down rather than logg off, but this is not everytime I shut down. It is intermittent. Any Ideas?

Have to install pointing device on each boot
by Guest BW- 1 reply

I have an IBM Thinkpad z61m. Everytime I boot the machine it tells me that it is installing the UltraNav pointing device and that it hasn't passed Microsoft certification. It asks if it should continue anyway or stop the installation. My question is, why does it have to install it on each boot? I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers for that device. What is wrong and how do I fix this? Thanks for your help. Bruce

by Guest asteiner- 1 reply

In Windows 2000/XP there is a registry key called LogonPrompt (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon\LogonPrompt) where a message text is displayed in the logon window. Same key under Windows Vista is not working as expected. (I don't want to use the GPO setting "Interactive logon: Message title for users attempting to log on") Any idea?

Is there any way in script form I can change the order of wireless connections?
by Guest Blackberry- 3 replies

Hi All My boss has a brand new WinXP Pro SP2 laptop for use at the office and at home. Both locations are wireless setups, but use different settings to provide reliable use. You have to believe me on this one. Both wireless connections are listed in the preferred networks list and work PROVIDING that they are at the top of the list at the time. In other words, if he is at home the home connection has to be at the top of the list and if he is at the office then the office connection has to be at the top of the list for the wireless connection to be picked up and used. I have no problem with this quirk, in that it won't move to the next connecti…

Stop C000021a status 0x0000005 on XP.

Hi, I have a remote user with a desktop p/c with Windows XP. She keeps getting a blue screen error as follows: "STOP: C000021a (fatal system error). The windows logon process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000005 (0x00000000) The system has been shutdown" I have found references to this error on various sites, but they all seem to refer to Windows 2000 and the fix is usually install a service pack. However I cannot find any references to the error for Windows XP. Can anybody suggest what the solution might be to this? Thanks for any help Colin
