by Guest mel- 1 reply

As mentioned elsewhere I cannot get Flashplayer 9 to load, it was suggested at work I update the graphics drivers. It appears that my PC has aSIS 650 chip and there is an updated driver available. Once I have downloaded the file from the SIS site how do I install the new driver? Should I even be trying to do this, is there any chance that I will end up with a blanks screen? What precautions should I take in case the new driver does not work?

The Windows system drivers for both my CD reader and burner are suddenly "missing or corrupted", so I can't use either. Can I repair this without the XP CD? I have a legal XP Pro, but the CD (licensed to a company) is not immediately available and I need the reader urgently..... Thanks. Janet

MVPs, I am having problems with a Windows XP SP2 install that has the following symptoms after startup: 1. The taskbar is of minimal height and cannot be resized (no start menu visible and taskbar is only a few items wide) 2. Several automatic services are hung in the "Starting" state. They are: a. COM+ Event System b. Network Connections c. Shell Hardware Detection d. Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) 3. In the services.msc (or any MSC for that matter) the action->properties does nothing. I have tried secpol.msc, services.msc 4. The "Extended" tab in most .msc's is empty, but the Standard tab …

I am trying to disable "Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode" and the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" options in Advanced internet settings. I am able to uncheck the boxes and click apply however next time i go into advanced settings they are rechecked. I am using windows xp professional SP2 on a domain connected to Small business server 2003. I have tried changing the values in the registry and local policy. Could it be a group policy option on the server that is making them re check? if so does anyone know how to change the group policy to stop it, i have tried the allow mixed content and do not save encrypted files options, it s…

Hi! I'm new here, but could really use your help. I've downloaded IE7. My PC is running Windows XP. When IE opens up, instead of going to my homepage automatically, it goes to the IE 7 Welcome page. How do I get rid of that, and just have my homepage open up? Before I downloaded IE 7, my homepage ALWAYS opened first. TIA for any help you can give me.

Hi, I'm trying to change file properties of files stored in a network mapped drive. For example a go to file properties > summary > Title example >> Ok. Then when I'm going to see the Title (putting Windows Explorer in Details View) it appear in blank. These don't happen if I put directly the Title from the computer that I'm accessing through network. Any suggestion will be really appreciate. Working in: Windows XP SP2

Clone Drive Issue
by Guest Gus Zernial- 7 replies

I'm replacing old WinXP System A by new WinXP System B. I cloned the old system disk to the new system disk, did a Repair install to account for some hardware differences, and the new system boots - BUT, there are some problems. The system disk on the old system was the F: disk and the system disk on the new system is the C: disk, so I find the system/applications looking in the wrong place for stuff. Is there a way to change the system (registry?) on a global basis to account for the fact that things are now on the C: disk? Or if not, can I rename the system disk on the new system as the F: disk? Thanks!

Just tried to uninstall Norton bloatware Systemworks 2003 on a PC , (inludes Norton Ghost and Go back), and now can't even get into Windows Safe Mode, or Normal Mode, or even Command prompt, or any Windows Mode. So I put in the XP Home SP1 cd for this particular PC, and it said it couldn't find proof of a previous version of Windows, (so it looks like it's an XP upgrade version?), so I stuck in my old W98se cd and that didn't do it ! Keep getting a BSOD but, too quick to read it. A big white "Symantec Norton GOBACK" is intercepting Windows start-up and I've chosen disable, and now there's a "Removing Norton GoBack history from drive C:." and it's real…

How to get rid of Floppy (Drive A) entry?
by Guest David Winter- 1 reply

I had to re-install Windows from a TrueImage backup, and now Explorer shows a floppy disk entry (Drive A). This system, however, doesn't have and never had a floppy drive, and it's not one of the card reader slots, either. What is the correct/best way to get rid of this non-existent drive?

Cleanup of extinct WINXP update files
by Guest Sven Pran- 3 replies

In my C:\WINDOWS folder I have a huge amount of Uninstall file folders accumulated over the last two years. Most of these folders will be of little or no interest once the upgrade to which they refer has proven stable, and many of them are obviously superseeded by more recent upgrades as well. I should appreciate some advice for a proper procedure to clean up my Windows directory by deleting these folders. Just removing the folders by brute force is of course a possibility but that will create several inconsistencies in the registry (which I can handle with my registry integrity check and repair utility), but I should rather prefer to have some recommende…

Icons Disappeared After Installing Win XP Updates
by Guest CBDittmar- 4 replies
I ran Windows Update and installed several of them, including IE7. After doing so, most of my program icons, including all the MS Office apps, are the generic file file type icons (white box with blue top border). I've deleted my icon cache and I can't see that the file has been rebuilt after rebooting. I also have two "CURRENT VERSION" folders in my registry under HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE_SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows. Although all of my programs work just fine, it's frustrating not being able to quickly discern the file type in an email or when using Windows Explorer. Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated - -- ~CBD
