by Guest Go123- 0 replies

I have got an error when running a C++ (Visual Studio 6) program which calls a method (bolCheckInput()) from a VB 6 dll. The error is: "Unhandled exception in TestPassword.exe (RICHED20.DLL): 0XC0000005: Access Violation". The code portion in VC++ is as follows: _stsclsFInputPasswordPtr pPassword; hr = pPassword.CreateInstance(__uuidof(stsclsFInputPassword)); switch (hr) { case S_OK: { VARIANT_BOOL password; password = pPassword->bolCheckInput("Communication Server"); pPassword.Release(); CoUninitialize(); return(password == VARIANT_TRUE ? TRUE : FALSE); break; } When the vb dll is runing in debug mode, no error occurs, But if the…

Autoplay Brings Up Window of CD Instead of Install
by Guest David Owens- 4 replies
When I put in an install CD, Windows XP brings up a window with the contents of the CD instead of running the install program. I've tried checking the Registry entries a Microsoft Knowledge Base article says to check when you have autoplay problems and I ran a autoplay fix program I downloaded from Microsoft's site, but the problem is still there. Any ideas?

Installed Vista Ultimate now 1 of my hard drives is missing
by Guest CDoherty- 2 replies

I installed Vista Ultimate on my drive 0: I had backed EVERYTHING up on drive 1: which was partitioned into 3 drives. Good install, but now drive 1: is missing along with the 3 partitions that were on the drive. Mind you drive 1: is a separate hard drive and I did not format it. the only drive that was formated with a clean install was drive 0: how do I recover from this? -- No signature, just generic

How to get uninstall path string in Add/Remove programs
by Guest Ravi- 0 replies
There are 2 programs from same company listed in the control panel "Add/Remove" list. If you click "Remove" on either of them it will launch the msiexec.exe followed by product code to uninstall the program. I see the uninstall string entries for one of the programs in registry: Local Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. For the other program, I don't see it listed at all in the "Uninstall" list, even though that program definitely calls the msiexec.exe when user clicks "Remove" from "Add/ Remove" list. Is there any other place to get the path to where the uninstall path of that program is?

SiPix printer driver for XP
by Guest Teflon- 5 replies
Needed a cheap way to create quick hardcopy on the road, so bought a SiPix Printer A6 on eBay. All eBay vendor listings state it will work with all WIN OS's thru XP. However, the install disk only has drivers thru 2000. One vendor's eBay listing has a link to download the 'XP Driver', did that, but it's just thesame 2000 driver that's on the CD. Started to install that and got the XP gloom and doom warnings 'Not Signed', 'Not for XP', etc., so I stopped. My questions, will installing a WIN2000 driver damage XP? Will it work? If not, does anyone have another souce I might look to for a driver for this printer? Tried to find the mfgr's website, but no …

How to get rid of unwanted logon screen at startup?
by Guest Andrew_White- 4 replies

I have one user defined on the machine, say "myprofile," defined as an administrative user. Until recently when I logged on the machine booted up directly to the desktop without offering me any logon screen or any need to choose users. Then last week I briefly experimented with having different users, making user myprofile to be limited - this and that. I abandoned all these changes in the end end, and went back to just how things were. However, Windows now presents a logon screen with a choice between myprofile and the default "administrator" user. This is completely un-necessary. Is there any way to get rid of it, and boot up as myprofile by defaul…

Desktop Icons
by Guest PeterB- 5 replies
After running McAfee's "cleanup" tool in their Security Center, every one of my Desktop internet icons now queries me upon clicking "choose the program you want to use to open the file" and it lists Explorer, Firefox, etc as well as the standard Microsoft file extensions. Xing the box "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" does no good. I tried to create a new bookmark for one of those icons, but the new bookmark also opens the same query. How to I re-establish a direct link so that a double click on a URL directly accesses that URL without having to tell it to use Explorer, etc. Peter B
