Found a new twist on the missing My Documents in the My Computer folder... If the user is anything but an Administrator, they loose their My Documents folder. It looks like it is lost only for any number of users greater than 3 (not including the Guest / Administrator accounts). My 3rd 4th and 5th accounts were madeas limited users and only the 3rd works properly in limited mode. The 4th and 5th will show their My Documents folder only when they are changed to Administrators... The Power User permissions act the same as the limited user (User) permissions. HELP please...I really don't want my kids to get into the registry....

Windows XP Windows Explore
by Guest GusGus- 3 replies

When I right click the Start Button and select “Explore,” Windows Explore opens up with the Start Menu highlighted. Is there a way I can change this to having the “C:\” permanently highlighted instead? My Folder tree is so long that the Start menu is off the screen, causing me to have to scroll up to the C:\ folder which I would rather have highlighted in the first place! Any help would be greatly appreciated. GusGus

Internet Connection Problem
by Guest New bie- 2 replies

I am using Windows XP Pro with SP2 and using DSL ADSL Roter. I am having a problem with my Internet connection. My main problem (connecting to Net) was solved, from input, which I received from this NG. But I do have another problem. When I am downloading a big file all of a sudden my Net connection gets disconnected . Thus I have to start all over again from the beginning to download the file. Any idea why this is happening and is there any way by which I can stay connected during downloading ? Regards.

Trying to connect a notebook computer to a LAN. I looked through Services and did not find Wireless Zero Configuration. Since this service is for automatic configuration of 802.11 adapters it seems it should be running. I ran Add/Remove software routine to load it onto the notebook and it is still missing from the list of available services. Is there a configuration setting needed -- KC

Rebuild Add or remove programs list
by Guest wendelin- 3 replies

Hi, Perhaps due to an electricity outage, my Add or Remove Programs list has been corrupted. The entries in this list are weird and have no Change/Remove buttons. On running regedit, the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall has only new programs listed. The old programs are gone. Is there any way to rebuild this list? Thank you. Wendelin

files are appearing twice in the search box and in Windows Media player: they can be deleted from the library, but on deletion from the computer, the "other copy" won't play. to clarify: a single file exists but is appearing twice, only in WMP and in the search box. What could be causing this?

Is it OK to enable SafeDllSearchMode?
by Guest void.no.spam.com@gmail.com- 7 replies
- 331 views
I read that the registry key SafeDllSearchMode was introduced in Windows 2000 SP3. It improves security by searching in the system directories for DLLs before searching in the current directory. But it was disabled by default in all versions of Windows until Windows XP SP2 because it could potentially break existing applications. Does anyone know what applications will break if you enable it?

by Guest ralphs- 5 replies

XP Pro, fully up to date with patches When you place the cursor over a quick launch or toolbar icon you get a descriptive tooltip window. After a couple of days these tooltips appear behind the toolbar. You can see the top of them but the message is hidden. How do I get the proper behavior back without rebooting?
