Computer Starting to Slowdown?!?
by Guest The Pete- 6 replies

My computer is approximately 2 months old and now has just recently started to slow down after 3-4 hrs of use after each bootup. I have scanned for viruses, malware/spyware, uninstalled unecessary programs, defragmentized the hard drive, run diskcheck and cleared cookies and temporary files from Internet Explorer. After a few hrs the system slows down substantially thus making it difficult to browse the net and switch inbetween programs. When I go to the "Performance" tab under the task manager it shows the CPU usage around a minimal 5-10% when idle during this slowdown process. Under "Processess" there aren't any other resource programs running with any signif…

by Guest Howard Brazee- 2 replies

In my work Windows XP pro machine, I have a .html document. If I right click on it and say "open with" Firefox (my default browser), it opens with no trouble. If I double click on it, get a window saying: Windows cannot find 'C:\webapps\Buttontest.html'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button and click Search. I press OK, and then Firefox shows Buttontest correctly. I do not have administrator privilege in this computer. Why does this happen?

OT: RE MY FLAME !!!

Microsoft Media Center Edition owners ( or renters, as maybe is more legally correct to say here in free America ) are now at the mercy of yet another lunacy, people whom enjoy recording cable for personal use are required to purchase hard disk recording in place of inexpensive DVD recording media to be within the compliance of copyright law. Is government complex? What happens when my media center license expires, i'm s**T out of luck. Depends if copyright over rules the right of free speech, and to learn and study! Saving files
by Guest une- 5 replies

I have access to a webpage that shows a list of links. Each link leads to a file that I want to save on my machine. The problem is that when I right click on the link and select "save target as", XP adds an extension to the filename when it saves it. For example one of the files is a script named countWords. When I right click on the link and select "save target as", XP saves this file as countWords.txt instead of countWords. How do I stop XP being so overly "helpful"? Thanks. -- A Human
