My hard drive failed, I bought a new one and a new OS, Windows XP Home Editionjust three months ago. Why do I need permission and who is my system admin if not me?

Locked Date base in Access
by Guest dejotay- 1 reply

I have recently downloaded a medical program, the database of which will not work as it shows tha the data base is locked and being used by another user. As I am the only user (set up as administrator) on my system and I cannot understand why? I have looked in the MS knowledge base and they say that I should go to 'tools' then 'options' to change the detail of the sharinging of the data base but the 'options' is greyed out and I cannot make any adjustment. I have found a locked data base icon in another program (Roxio) but I cannot delete it. Any ideas would be appreciaited.

Trying to open a folder opens the Search panel in Windows Explorer

This is easily replicated on her machine, because it happens every time. The only thing that she remembers happening recently is that an "Adobe update" was installed around the same time this started. I noticed two pieces of spyware installed (starware or starwave or something like that, and one other). I removed both of them, but no improvement. I also ran a full virus scan and Spybot S&D scan. Nothing turned up. I reset all the defaults in View>Folder …

I have files to be written to CD/DVD (created by accident is my guess - to much in a hurry and the computer lost touch with reallity. :) ) , but now I can not delete them. They are core folders and there is not enough space for any action to take place. Anyone got some ideas how to solve this problem.

XP has decided that Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is going to be the default application for opening any graphic I click on. The problem is, this isn't the one I want. How do I change the default program for opening and viewing graphics files? I hope this hasn't already been answered elsewhere, and really appreciate the help you folks give to wanna-be-geeks like me. :-)
