Outlook opening IE links with IE in Classic skin rather than XP theme
by Guest Synapse Syndrome- 3 replies

I am using a black version of the Royale theme in XP. I have modified it to have thinner titlebars. It works fine, but when I open web links in Outlook, IE opens in Classic theme instead if the XP theme. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? Cheers ss.

RyanMV's Switchless installers
by Guest Paul- 1 reply

Has anyone slipstreamed the .Net Framework 1.1 and 2 switchless installers from here? http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/ If you have, does 1.1 include the 1.1 install file, as well as SP1 and the hotfix? Or just SP1 and the hotfix? Or do you have to add the 1.1 file to the slipstreamed CD? This page doesnt tell anyone anything ! And what about NF 2?? Does that include the main install file, as well as the updates, or just the updates? I'm about to SS both of them, but dont wont to waste a cd, if neither dont have the main install for the SP's to install after. Since it probably wont work / install Any info appreciated Thanx

IE7 GPO Proxy issues
by Guest T- 2 replies
Hi, I'm running IE7 on a Win XP Pro SP3 client machine. Running on a new 2008 domain. The XP machine has the 2008 GP client side extentions installed. We normally set up IE to look at a proxy and override the proxy for only sites needed as and when. This is done by going into a GPO and setting up the proxy in the Internet Explorer maintenance. However the proxy override box never has enough space for all the addresses. So this key was set in the group policy Preferences > Registry to replace the key with a set of values. (new to 2008 GPO) Additionally other security permissions are set to disallow access to internet options and preventing use…

domain computers to have same wallpaper - Group Policy
by Guest Paul- 6 replies
Hi all, I am trying to use a Group Policy to set all domain computers desktop wallpaper to the company's logo. Now I have managed to adjust the settings accordingly using the Group Policy Editor in MMC. Problem is that even if I do a "gpudate /force" along with multiple restarts the selected wallpaper does not display. When I go into display settings though the wallpaper I want is actually shown as been the one in use. Now I started messing around and for some strange reason when I change the screen resolution the wallpaper I set via group policy then displays correctly. I have double checked this with other wallpapers as well and the same is true...…

Missing files in Windows Explorer
by Guest Peter- 7 replies

When I look at "C:\Documents and Settings\User" in Windows Explorer on my desktop PC I cannot see the "Local Settings" Sub-directory. If I type the name in the address bar it appears OK. I have selected "Show Hidden Files and folders". I have unticked "Hide protected operating system files". If I view the drive from my laptop via my wireless link the files are there! I'm on XP Pro SP2. I'd be grateful for any ideas, whilst I can clearly work around the problem it's a pain. Peter

by Guest JeromeBland- 9 replies

Hi, I purchased a Dell 8200 computer in 2003. That computer was stolen from my house in October 2004, however I still have the ORIGINAL XP home edition installation CD and the 25 digit license code. Now it is 2008 and I recently built a home use computer that needs an OS. Question: Can I install and use the Windows XP Home Edition OS, with my license code from the stolen computer, on a computer that I just built? Thanks, Jer B

Windows that won't open
by Guest JMGinDC- 2 replies

Windows XP Prof on 3.5 year old Dell 9200 Inspiron. Have had a progressively worsening issue of windows not opening new screens in Explorer and from My Documents. System seems to be running fine, then the problem starts, I reboot, it works fine for a while, and so the cycle goes. In Explorer I can continue to work in the open window but hyperlinks won't open in a new window, right clicks don't work, etc. Similar thing happens in My Documents; can open that but then can't get into the folders in it. Also strange, very thin vertical purple line appeared mid-screen a few months back. Any ideas? Time for a new computer? Hourly reboots are a pain. Thanks for any help.…

Simple document management?
by Guest jim- 2 replies

What is the easiest way to share documents among a small office (9 people) that forces check-out/check-in? We really need to be sure that only one person at a time is editing each document. Revision history and backups would be nice, but the biggest thing is ease-of-use. I'm not sure of this is something that you can do natively in Windows or if you need a special product to get this capability. If it has to be a product or add-on, something that integrated into Excel, Word and Windows Explorer would be great. Thanks!
