Found an old computer Dell Optiplex GX100 - has a password for bios?
by Guest David D- 4 replies

I found a dell Opitex GX100 computer. It seems to work, but it has a password for the bios...I am trying to format the harddrive as well to put XP on it, but I would like to change the boot sequence. Should I try and flash the bios to erase the password? Also, I am not sure of how much RAM is installed because it is a DELL and it doesn't tell me at start up. I am hoping that getting into the bios will help me with that. Lastly, is there a good FORMAT software for the floppy drive so I can format and then run XP from the CD rom drive to install?

Can Old Restore Points Be Used With New Windows Install?
by Guest Will- 9 replies

I have a massively corrupted Windows XP SP3 installation that may require a new install of Windows. My system restore points are intact in the system information folder. After creating a new install of Windows, is it able to restore Windows' system state using those old restore points that were created with a different install of Windows? It would be an extremely nice feature to have if not. All of my installed software on this system is intact. I really just need to recover the original registry and system32 subtree. -- Will

Problem with screen savers
by Guest Ale- 1 reply

Whenever I install a new screen saver (it happens with all), it will install all of the corrsponding files for that screen saver. If I go to c:\windows\System32 the corresponding scr files are installed and can be executed as well as the C:\Program Files folder corresponding to that screen saver, but it will not be added to the XP Screen Saver list (right click on desktop/Properties/Display Properties/Screen Saver tab/Screen saver drop down list). Is there any way to fix this? Thanks. (My system is a Windows XP Pro SP3 and the issue was still present when it was SP2).

MODI file associations reset after windows updates
by Guest news.optonline.com- 3 replies

After I install Windows monthly updates, the file associations for TIFF is reset from Microsoft Document Imaging (MODI) application to the Windows Picture and Fax viewer. In an office of 100 people without permissions to change associations, the manual fix of clicking on the reset button within MODI is not acceptable. Is there a fix for this ? I've been finding posts from people that are having the same problem. Has Microsoft released any information on this issue ? Thanks Nick

Hey folks, I'm in serious need of help! I was trying to record my gameplay of games, from the xbox360 to my pc. I can manage to do so, but 60 hz is black and white, but that's not the issue i need help on. So, i asked someone what to do, he said i should download my graphic drivers and install them. (Somehow i didn't yet, but everything else worked fine). So i downloaded my graphic driver (Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX) and installed it. So now when i want to boot my computer, then it comes to the loading screen, ((he black one with the windows logo and blue bar)) and blue screens. It keeps doing that every time i wanna boot it. And i don't want to format it cause i…

White boxes arround icons?
by Guest Xantipas- 1 reply
My machine decided,on it's own, to encase "some" of my program icons in a "white box" instead of melding it into the blue background of my desktop. I have been able to change a few back by re-choosing the icon symbol in Properties BUT many of the icons cannot be chosen to change them. Any ideas as to how I can change all of them? Thanks Xen
