Program keeps crashing
by Guest Pam- 5 replies

I'm trying to figure out why this program keeps crashing on me - its called DiscStudio/DiscDirect which is a program for Nexis 100AP. It works great for a while and then when I start moving text aftera while it will crash. I have to usually hit alt/control/delete to get out of it as it will just hang there until I do. I am using xp pro, have a Gateway Media Center SP2 - its a AMD 64x2 Dual core processor 4200+ 2.21 GHZ 1.87GB of Ram (guess that's all I need to let you know what I have?) do I not have enough memory or why would it keep crashing? any clues? thanks Pam

HELP, I'M LOCKED OUT
by Guest Bill- 13 replies

New XP Home computer mistakenly came with a UK keyboard. Using that keyboard, I set the administrator's password to "John316" and used that password several times before discovering that I had the wrong keyboard. My hardware supplier UPS'd me an exchange USA keyboard while at the same time I gave up the UK keyboard. Apparently, the two keyboards use a different code-page, as I can no longer log in as the administrator, which of course means I'm "dead in the water" until I can either circumvent or find a translation. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill

I have installed later today the Apache HTTP Server (versions 2.0.46 / 2.2.8) and found that it crashes on XP SP3 in libhttpd.dll. The fault addresses resulted in 2.0.46 and 2.2.8 found they pointed to the same function [ap_recent_ctime()]. but sure at different offset / entry point address. I had got also exceptions during the server shutdown in libapr-1.dll (Apache Portability Runtime library) function apr_time_exp_gmt() which converts a time to its human readable components in GMT time zone. My first suspicion the local windows time zone because I have it set to GMT+2. After resetting the time zone to GMT+0 the HTTP server to launched successfully…

Re: Windows Defender Defenition 1.35.716.0 failed to install. Update on the situation: MS apparently "recalled" the Defender update released on 24 Jun-08. If the Defender "Alert!" icon is still displaying in Notification Area, open Defender and click on Check for Updates. You should get a "No updates available" response and Defender should be happy again (at least if you didn't uninstall/reinstall Defender). -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ PA Bear [MS MVP] wrote: > [Crossposted to Windows Update, WinXP General, and Security…

windows live toolbar installed but doesn't appear
by Guest coffee16- 4 replies

I received a fix from microsoft after I installed sp3 & updates quit working, and also I could not install windows live. The fix seems to have corrected the problems, but I am having a problem with windows live toolbar. It shows that it installed, but the toolbar is not actually there. It is in add/remove programs. I tried clicking view in ie to find & check live toolbar, but it is not there. I also checked to see if it was disabled in internet addons, but it is showing as enabled. Anyone know how I can get it to show up? I have also tried uninstalling & reinstalling it, & that didn't help either. Thank you

I set the scan disk to run at start up on a XP Professional system. At start up, the scan disk ran, but once it finishes, the system freezes and will not boot into Windows. If I manually stop the scan disk from running at start up, it freeze. When trying to boot into Safe Mode, it freezes as well. Is there another way to get in Windows?

XP Home acts weird in multiple ways
by Guest Information- 1 reply

XP Home SP3 is doing the following: 1) Upon boot, there is a strange set of beeps just as the bluish "Welcome" screen appears. This does not seem to directly affect anything, but I have not seen another machine beep at this point. 2) Once the system stabilizes opening any non-program icon "explores" the desktop. 3) Opening IE7, it will go to my homepage. Clicking on ANY link, will take me to my homepage. The actions of 2) and 3) do not change, until I press CTRL-ALT-DEL once. Now, things work normally. I do not kill any processes, and am stumped why pressing C-A-D once makes things behave normally. Any insight is appreciated, thanks in adva…
