Security Bulletin MS08-030 and IIS Problem
by Guest Michael- 3 replies
I recently applied the security patch referred to in http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms08-030.mspx to a Windows XP SP3 workstation. After applying the patch when I restarted IIS, the Internet Information Services plug-in reported that it could not attach to the computer. Additionally, I could no longer attach to my localhost web server. When I removed the patch, IIS behaved normally again and I could restart IIS at will. Has anyone else run into a similar issue and if so, is there a resolution? thanks, Michael

Different mice, install for each?
by Guest Bob Day- 1 reply

I have several different mice I use (only 1 at a time) to change my hand motion (to prevent carpel tunnel). The latest mouse I bought came with a CD IntelliPoint 6.1 to set the mouse up. It seems to only allow I mouse to be set up. Does this mean I should re-run it and set up for the new mouse I will be using each time I use a new mouse (about once a month)? Or does it keep the old mouse installation and allow you to change it without reinstalling? Or does it really matter? I have never used IntelliPoint when I change mice, and the mice have worked as I have changed them, but the new one is a wireless, so there is probably more to it than USB con…

Restoring File(s) created using "Backup" untility in Win 3.1x
by Guest abbagabbitz- 1 reply

I am attempting to restore files backed up using the Windows 3.1x backup utility. I'm running XP Pro now. I've found an old version of the "backup" utility, that loads, but then says it is configured incorrectly, that there must be a certain line in the system.ini file "Windows System" directory--then the computer must reboot for the change to take effect. There is such a directory, but there was no system.ini file in it when I went there. I put the file in the directory, with the device drivers "fvintd.386" named, with the proper path, etc. Problem is, seems rebooting does no good, since XP Pro doesn't even look for this file when it boots. I su…

RE: cant login to admin account, help! I'm having this same problem. Upon restart it doesn't recognize the user name and password I've set and I can't log in even using F8 safe mode. Safe mode doesn't come up when I hit F8. I've tried the administrator name and no password, the password that I set and the user name and password I've set. I've even tried leaving both blank, which used to work, but doesn't anymore. HELP! I can't log in at all now. How to insert double line or apply attribute in Word 2007
by Guest Jan :\)- 2 replies
I have inserted a shape line in a document and want to make it a double line and can't seem to locate the feature to do that, or if not longer available 2007, how do I insert a double line? I tried the Shape outline but, there is no double line listed in the weight box, or the more lines in any of the sections there. I tried to look it up in Help, but, it seemed only to tell how to double underline text or again referred to the Shape outline. The 3 pt double line is available in the weight list in 2003. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Jan :)

I mark the addressfield button in the toolbar, but the addressfield only shows as the word "Addressfield" at the very right end of the line and is grayed and not clickable. How can I fix this? I have the same problem with another PC that also runs XP HE. On another PC I run XP PRO and there it works as should. All PCs have SP 3 installed. -- Stef

Hibernate Mode
by Guest Richard- 2 replies

I put my PC in hibernate mode whenever I am out and during the night. Lately, it has been coming back up on its own shortly after I put it in hibernate mode. They only time it would do it before is when I had something scheduled, such as a Norton upgrade. I haven't done anything to my PC of late to cause this to happen, excpet perhaps a Windows upgrade. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks Rich
