Constantly Reboots
by Guest Shell- 7 replies

Win98SE randomly reboots now - didn't before. BUT, it doesn't reboot in Safe Mode! I have run a virus scan, and spyware scan = OK I have cleaned heat sinks, fans (run OK), and blew out the entire inside of dust bunnies. RAM test OK as does settings in Bios. There have been no changes to 98SE or it's files. The comp is used only for reading/writing email in OE. This bug appeared out of the blue. The only addition is Vista being part of the Network but it is not allowed to connect to ANY 98 because it locks them up. Even with the Vista machine off, the 98 reboots now and then, but AGAIN, not in when in Safe Mode. Help please: Google has nothing - bee…

I need to install Windows 98 on a HP Proliant server. It is for a software program that only runs on 98. The way I have been trying is booting with a Windows 2000 Professional CD and formatting the partition in FAT32. Then I install WIndows 98SE. The install seems to go fine and then when I reboot it freezes. I tried a step by step and that isnt helping

by Guest guddu- 0 replies

Hi, I am calling PrintDlg function with PD_RETURNDEFAULT flag set. ( I dont want the Printer Dialog Box) It fails. I have set the hDevNames and hDevMode to be NULL before calling the function PrinTDlg. For getting the error code I had called CommDlgExtendedError(). The error code returned was PDERR_NODEFAULTPRN. Error code implies that the default printer not found. But the default printer is configured for my machine. still why does it throw this error. Had tried PrintDlgEx function. Even that failed with the same error code PDERR_NODEFAULTPRN. Can anyone help me with this. TIA Guddu

I have a Windows 98 System that has been reformatted, it was reformatted because you could play gameson the computer for hours, but when you try to get on the internet you get between 10-20 of internet access then the computer locked up. Lights go off on network card, monitor does not receive a signal and you have to turn the power off from the power supply to get it to restart. At first I was thinking overheating but you can run the system all day just do not access the the internet. So then Ithought bad network card. Tried a different one and still have same issue. Upside-Down Screen Content
by Guest noorjabal- 5 replies
My cat lay along the lower end of my keyboard while the computer was on - which turned the contents of the screen upside down! Re-booting and shutting down have failed to solve the problem. I also tried systems restore but that didn't work either, although I'm not sure if I was using it correctly. All the start-up data is the right way up, but everything goes upside down from Windows "Welcome" onwards. Can you suggest any key combination that might fix the problem? Or anything else? What combination of keys might the cat have pressed to cause this? Any answers, tips or ideas would be much appreciated.

by Guest Peter Hyssett- 8 replies

Recently I fitted a second hard disk to my computer. The first hard disk has two partitions, which showed in My Computer as C: and D: before the econd disk was fitted. The second disk came with a 32MB FAT16 DOS primary partition, which I left as it was; I then used the Windows 98 FDISK to create an extended DOS partition on the second disk, with a single logical drive. Now the FAT16 primary partition shows in My Computer as D:, the logical drive in the extended partition of the first drive as E:, and the new logical drive in the extended DOS partition on the second drive does not show at all. Can anyone tell me how to get access to the logical drive in t…
