Hi, Having a few problems recently my partners PC is running WIN98SE on her computer and the last couple of pieces of software my partner has tried to install has failed. The two pieces of oftware are the download manager provided by fileplanet and the latest world of warcraft patch. The error produced by file planets DM is "The Installer must be run under an account with Aministrator Access", The wow patch produces a similar message, but it takes about 40 minutes to run thru the patch and THEN it fails =( so I havent recorded that error. Confused because I didnt think admin rights were an issue on 98, I have tried switchign network settings around…

No use cause a power supply to fail?
by Guest ms- 11 replies

Question arises due to keeping a spare computer, not normally used. I sometimes acquire a used computer at a garage sale. Sometimes a person says "it works, but I haven't used it in a year". They are free. Recently from my dentist's office, where they know they will see me again. I get them home, apply power, some have a dead power supply, where past history is not used for a long time. I know tube radios need to be used or they are dead. Cars need to be run or eventually batteries go dead. Etc. Can the typical computer power supply die from not being used? If so, assume booting up monthly should be enough? ms

I have win98 Internet Explorer 6.0 Macromedia\FlashPlayer 9,0,45,0 My problems began about a week ago when the videos at youtube failed to materialize in my Explorer browser. All I get now is a white blank box where the video should be. Through trial and error I was eventually directed to the Adobe website where supposedly I have FlashPlayer version 9,0,45,0 and I now need version 9.0.47.0. To my knowledge ,,I now need to download the uninstaller plus the new version of FlashPlayer. That's fine and dandy except that the Internet Explorer 6.0 won't allow me to download the dang things! Every time I try it prompts me with the following error warni…

I have an Embroidery program that I have on an old old computer running Windows 98. My system crashed and I lost the ability to send an embroidery design from the computer to my sewing machine. The embroiery program is Wilcom ES 35, and the sewing machine is a Melco EMC-6. They communicate through a parallel port. I use this computer only for my embroidery program. Can anyone walk me through this? Also, how can I find what graphics card I have? Do graphics cards go bad? Appreciate any help I can get.

Re: 98 emachine Hello, Kim. I can't assist you at the moment, but I thought I'd clarify your message and get rid of the old stuff. I am also going to share this post with the Windows 98 General Discussion group, since this one gets little traffic. -- Gary S. Burning CD's is a HUGE HASSLE 1 2

What ever happened to the good old days where all that was needed was a simple floppy disk, and files could be dragged and dropped from Windows, or use the "copy command" from dos. After not even owning a CD player for years, I just bought an external Iomega ZipCD player and recorder, connected to my USB port. After a little hassle getting the drivers installed, it works fine, and I was able to install a few CD's that have been sitting on the shelf for the last several years. On the other hand, I have never burned a CD or DVD or anything. This drive came with Iomega Hot Burn Pro. I have played with it, but have not yet purchased any blanks. One thing I…

Flash card drive does not show up
by Guest ms- 1 reply

I installed the universal USB driver software mentioned here awhile ago, works great on 2 W98 machines, as my flash card functions normally. In a third machine there is a problem. The driver software above installed normally. I then plugged in the flash card, got the usual screen finding driver, everything normal as I saw on the other 2 machines. The flash card drive icon showed up in the System Tray. If I select it for Unlock, it shows as drive F, and names my particular flash card. But drive F does not show in windows Explorer. I tried rebooting, tried Safe Mode, don't see it. How to see that drive so I can use it? ms

help with Windows Protection Error

I have receiving a Windows Protection Error when I start up for a few weeks. I was able to get the computer to function well for about a week by disabling all start-up programs, restarting, then reenabling the programs. The error disappeared. This didn't work the second time- today. I can't seem to get the computer to start normally. I can start in safe mode, and even when I try to start selectively, it automatically goes into safe mode. Normal startup doesn't work and involves too many startup programs. I have been working with msconfig. I disenabled some of the options in selective startup, like auto bat but when reenabled, the computer didn't start prop…
