Storage Server 2003 Rebuild
by Guest Mike Gallagher- 4 replies

Hi All, We have an HP Fileserver w/ Storage Server 2003 on it. It is attached to an EMC AX150 SAN. There are numerious issues with the server so I have to rebuild it. So I have to rebuild the server this weekend. My question is are there any utilities to help preserve the shares, permissions, etc? The data itself wil remain intact (on the SAN), but after the server is up after the rebuild I'd like to avoid having to manually recreate all those shares. Thanks in advance.

Windows 2000 Server Disk Manager volume mirroring - 1 Terabyte volume mirror limit ? Hello We have been unable to mirror either of our two gigantic PST volumes on our Windows 2000 SP4 server using the native Windows 2000 Disk Manager application since these volumes have have recently been increased in size to over 1 TeraByte. This Windows 2000 File Server accesses it's disk array units from a SAN. We ARE able to mirror several volumes on this same Windows 2000 Server that are in the 700 GB to 850 GB volume size. My question is, is there a 1 TB volume limit in the native Windows 2000 Disk Manager for mirroring ? I have been unable to glean any releva…

ntbackup can't find tapestreamer from commandline/schedular
by Guest freaky- 3 replies

Hey there, we're having an issue with ntbackup. The program runs fine if we start the backup from the GUI. However, using the schedular or the commandline gives an error the device or medium is not found (freely translated from dutch 'Kan het aangewezen medium of back-upapparaat niet vinden. De back-upbewerking wordt afgebroken.'). I think it has to do with the issue with had with the tape drive (a compaq dat 20/40). This was probably a defect in the SCSI controller. You could some commands (like selftest from HP tape tools, or eject from removable storage) fine, however any command that would read or write to the tape would cause the device to freeze up and…

Server 2003 - Difference between Retail and OEM CALs?
by Guest Jason- 0 replies

I'm looking into purchasing Windows 2003 Server R2 Retail version. I've seen plenty of sites selling the 5 or 20-pack User CALs OEM version for a bit less than the Retail version of the CALs. Is there any conflict with using OEM CALs on a Retail version of the server OS, or should this be fine? Thanks! --Jason

by Guest Martin- 2 replies

Hi Guys Not sure whether this kind of thing is adddressed in this group or maybe I could be directed to a better one. Here is what I wanted Server 2003 Enterprise Edition 64bit From this I wanted to run virtual servers which the MS web pages say you can do included in your Enterprise Edition licence. Now, I bought the (hardware) server and the reseller sold me a copy of Enterprise OEM which only came with 64bit media and licence key. He did know I wanted it to run virtual servers at the time of placing the order. He's a gold partner. Now when I have installed it and wanted to set up the virtual servers he claims that afterall Microsoft won't all…

Authentication tracking
by Guest Jim- 0 replies

Hi, I have a 2k3 Server (std, sp2) with couple of 3rd part apps to track application usage (web, ftp, etc.). Within the application there is a file that has a hard coded username and password. The user who's username and password is being used within the app, has his account locked out when he changes his password. The developer does not recall where he might have placed his credentials (BAT, CFG, etc.). There are no services running using his account. I believe that this server sends the authentication request to run the file/app/process but eventually times out. I have checked the Event Viewer but I am not sure if this application or process h…
