Hi all, I would appreciate me very much if someone could help me out with the following: I will be upgrading my child domain to windows 2003. However I’m not sure on how to go about it. Here is my situation: 1. I have no access to the forest nor the root/forest domains. They are controlled by head office. 2. I have full control on my local child domain only. 3. The forest/root domains are windows 2003. 4. my domain is window 2000 I was planning to do in place upgrade and run adprep /domain. Now is there anything I should take into consideration. Like, need to have access to the root/forest domains or a better way to do this instead of in place …

User Profile damaged
by Guest CUBuffs- 2 replies

I have a user who logged into a different pc on our Server 2003 domain and was unable to open her MS Office apps (Outlook, Word, etc) or could not even open the system icon or add/remove programs in the control panel. When she logged in to her own pc she began having the same problems. I am guessing that her user profile is damaged. How can I repair it? Thanks.

Event Log Source List
by Guest helpme2pc- 1 reply

I currently have the errors that are logged being sent to an email account that I don't want to monitor constantly. I would like to create rules that would forward critical errors (ie low disk space, backup errors, etc) but not all to my active account. I have done some searching and I can't get the terms narrowed down enough to find a compiled list that I might be able to pick some that might impact me the most. Eventid.net has something but I am not a memeber. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to look or what to filter? Thanks in advance.

by Guest Gis Bun- 2 replies

As it's not (hopefully) required, how do I completely remove Removing Windows Media Player from a Server from a server installation? It's not in the Add/Remove Components? [And why is WMP installed anyway on a server? It shouldn't be required and it has had almost as much security issues as IE!] Thanks Gis

Cannot Load Hive...again
by Guest Steven Frank- 2 replies

I have a new (10 days) install of Win2k3 Standard that is giving me a blue screen at boot saying that the hive cannot be loaded. First, what options do I have for recovery (I do have a full backup on tape) and second any thoughts on the cause? Interestingly, on this particular box, which is a development server not in production, I had this happen once before. That time I just did a reinstall but at this point I'd like to get to the bottom of the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Roaming Profiles and redirected folders
by Guest Scott Micale- 24 replies

We have been using roaming profiles and redirected folders for awhile and we are noticing some serious slowness when a person goes to log into their machines. After you type in your password the message saying, "Loading your personal settings" is on the screen for a good 4-5 minutes before it changes to "Applying your personal settings". What can I do to troubleshoot this? Does it have anything to do with my roaming profiles or redirected folder setup? I created 3 shares on my server. One share is \\server_name\Profiles\ for my roaming profiles. I have the offline setting on this share set to, "Files or programs from the share will not be available …

Access denied when using computer managment on remote computers
by Guest Xignals- 4 replies

I am an administrator of a Windows Server 2000 active directory network and do allot of remote administration on users computers. When trying to check the event log or check user groups on a remote machine using computer management I get an access denied error. Now I can still get to the admin share on remote machines and this method works perfectly on Windows 2000 boxes. The error is only on XP and Server 2003 machines. Something else that is broke is the ability to do remote installs of Symantec Anti Virus. I can not push out installs from my desk. After some googling I have seen some posts about updating Active Directory to work with XP and Server 20…
