System won't shut down
by Guest Guus Ellenkamp- 1 reply

I have a server which shows a user desktop background. The user logged off, but the logoff process does not seem to complete. I can access all the server functions, including remote computer management. However, it refuses to accept a shutdown command remotely (and locally I cannot issue it of course). I don't like to hard reset this server of course. The shutdown command seems to return error 15, which is displayed in a dialog box when trying to shutdown through computer management console. Please advise.

Memory Leak in Lsass.exe
by Guest Frank- 3 replies

I have a server here running Window 2003 Standard. Everyday around 5:30PM, lsass.exe used up all the memory to 100%. I read some articles regarding this issue, some say it is about a virus, some say it is about window updates. Anyway, I followed all the tips for solving this issue, I am 100% sure it is not a virus nor about not updating window (because I ran all the updates). However, it still happenes everyday, lsass.exe uses up all 100% memory.... Why? How to solve it? Thank you, Frank

hi out there We have several Windows 2000 SP4 based servers where i try to find where the memory is used - but I cannot get the numbers right - can somebody help me? - see here: We have here a 32bit intel based server (some Dell PE4600) with 4GB ram installed ( only 3866096 kb ram avalibly -> 3.7GB avalibly due to some memory mapped IO somewhere in the PCI bus as far as I know) - kernel memory 92592 kb, commit charge 3760442 kb - when I now list the processes with pslist or whatever utility can show me the RAM consumption I would expect that I could come close the commited charge - but thats far away - here is a processlisting with memorydetails – co…

Hello Everyone. This is my first post here and as it usually happenes I got here because I was googling something I need. I am an advanced user far from been an expert with very limited experience in 2003. However I am determined to manage my self to set it up so I can remotely access to manage the quick books database from outside the office as I used to have this service from someone else, paid a lot of money and ended up having tons of problems anyway so I rather go through the hassle of learning with as much help I can get from the web and any recommendation I can follow from guys who know more than I do. I have a PC (CEL 1.2GHz 256Mb 30Gb with a Windows …

Re: NTBackup, VSS & Shadow Copy Problem Just had this same problem as you guys on windows server 2003. Tried all your suggestions, apart from one, but prob a language issue as some of one response included garbled text on my pc, anyway... here's how i got round the issue and got ntbackup chugging along again.... in the shadow copy settings of the c drive, even the though c drive (systemroot) wasn't using shadow copies for previous versions, i changed the settings so it would save shadow copies to a different drive other than itself. Then having checked it was working ok with backup again, changed it the shadow copy settings of the volume back to the d…

Will mainly be used for investigating / learning / upgrading certifications to Windows 2008 with AD and SQL Server 2005 / 2008 on my home network. Should I go for 64-bit or 32-bit? Have no experience with 64-bit. Does it require the double of RAM for nearly all operations? Will upgrade to 4 GB RAM by Christmas. Thanks in advance! jas

Time on server out of sync
by Guest kickballmvp2006- 6 replies

On one of my servers (W2K3) in my domain, I am recieving errors in the event log approximately every 30 to 60 minutes with an Event ID of 29 stating: The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 15 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time. From my PC I ran a w32tm/Monitor command and the results were good. My domain controllers are in sync with each other for time. I ran a w32tm/resync on my PC (for a test) and it worked (it said the command completed successfully). I ran the w32tm/resync command o…
