Backing up user accounts

We have a dell server with Microsoft Small Business server, which is in real need of updating. I need to increase the hard drives within the server however in doing this I will have to format the existing data. This should be a major problem, however I need to back-up or make a report of all users, user permissions, user email addresses and any other info surrounding user account. Does anyone know of a tool that can do this? I will be making a Microsoft back-up however because I am changing the storage size I am a little worried that the back-up I make will not recover correctly, which in turn is why I need to find a tool to do all the above. Thanks

How do i prevent someone from accesing my LAN

Hi all I have a win 2003 Server SP2 which is my domain controller and DHCP on it. From time to time someone plug in a laptop into a network point; get a IP; and can then use the internet, etc. How do i prevent someone from just plugging in the network cable and having access to my network. Except obviously reserving a IP for all the MAC adresses on my network; which will take me a year to do. Anthing i can block him from getting a IP from DHCP or maybe let he get a message to contact the system administrator.... Hope this is clear

We have 2003 small business server and Sage ERP that we can't see the help files in the Sage program. I was told that is a problem with the Windows Server but don't know how to fix this or if this is true. Does anyone in here know how to fix this or had a similar problem? The error message says "The navigation to the web page was canceled. Retype the address." Thanks, -- Lee Coleman

I have a 2003 Server and 8 clients connected to it. DNS are set static to the sever IP address. Now I get once or twice a day an error saying "System detectet a possible attempt to compromise security". While that happen I get may popup windows with this message. However, I can restart the PC's again and everything works fine. The funny thing is that this happens mostly, but not always at similar time. Any idea what could cause this error.

Hi, I am totally lost. I have a Windows 2003 Domain. I installed SFU recently on one of the BDCs (2k3 SP1). After a long fight (CA ARCserve took port 111... I moved it), I finally get it working...well, sort of. I got all related services running. I created two users in AD, set their Unix attributes. Then I did this: C:\>ypcat -d mydomain -h localhost passwd bensonj:ABCD!efgh12345$67890:10000:10000::/home/bensonj:/bin/bash backup_agent:ABCD!efgh12345$67890:10001:10000::/home/backup_agent:/bin/sh What I noticed was the exact same password for both accounts. They are NOT under AD when I created them! I configured a Linux box. Bind to the NIS (SFU),…

DHCP leases
by Guest Net Admin- 5 replies

I have a DHCP scope that can hand out 200 IPs. My environment is Windows 2003 Servers in an Active Directory forest at the 2003 functional level. This scope is used for students' laptops and one computer lab. I have dynamic DNS updates turned on by request only from the DHCP clients. The lease duration is set at 1 hour. Problem: 150 students connect and lease IP addresses for the morning classes then leave campus 4 hours later. When the afternoon students come in I get messages from DHCP saying there are only 4 or 5 leases available, the scope is almost full. The leases that are expired are still showing up in DHCP under Address Leases so I have to manuall…

Our server is running Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise x64 Edition. Yesterday I happened to notice I can't open Windows Firewall anymore. I tried to start Windows Firewall service, but got the following error: Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS) service on Local Computer Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it's disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it But I checked that service startup type is automatic and it has hardware profile enabled. The server is running Mcafee Antivirus. But I don't think that's the problem because we have another server with exactly the same O…

by Guest it-support- 2 replies

Hi, We have about 30 or so clients connected to an W2003 server domain. the computers are not top-notch but should be more than enough to handle simple office work. The client computers are mostly Dell Dimensions 4600; 2.8GHz 512Mb RAM. Login is very slow, sometimes it takes as long as 40 seconds to log in - sometimes even more than a minute. In general everything feels slow and unresponsive. If I login on the computers local profile it takes about 5 seconds to login and the computer performs at twice the speed. I would like to know why connecting your computer to a windows domain so drastically changes a computers performance? I would like to know …
