255 characters for subdirectories
by Guest Boe- 1 reply

Hello, I noticed with subfolders, if you exceeded a certain length you couldn't copy them to other folders. e.g. shared\main clients\sales projects\year 2006 sales projects\..... Now I know my clients should be more succinct when naming folders but I don't sit over their shoulders all day watching them create subfolders. Is there a way to do anything about the limitations? If I do relax the limitations will I have problems with the workstations? Thanks PS our workstations are all XP and our servers are all 2003.

Tape Marked as Write Protected When it isn't
by Guest Charlie- 2 replies

I have a Quantum Superloader 3 LTO2 tape library running on a Dell PE 2800 with Windows 2003 R2, SP2. In Removable Storage, my LTO tape shows up as write protected when I try to move it into the Free Media Pool. The tape doesn't have the write protection tab engaged and I have never even used the tape before. I am not sure this is really a Windows problem, but does anyone have an idea what I can do about it? Thanks.

I am running a Win2K3 Standard Server w/SP2. HP DL360 Server HP Data Protector 6.0 HP/UX 11.xx client Running HP Data Protector 6.0 Cell Manager on W2K3. Windows Clients back up fine. HP UX client will back up fine to any other Cell Manager, but since they are remote, over the network backups take a very long time. When trying to backup, the Cell Manager contacts the client and the client connects back to send data, but gives error "IPC cannot connect, connection refused". Checked with HP, they requested trying Telnet to port 5555 on server and that fails, they state issue with OS. When trying "Telnet localhost.domain.name 5555" receive back "Con…

file locked

I have a Windows 2003 Server that links together several computers in the network. The server is used as a domain controller and to store critical files for the computers connected to it. One of the applications is Wonderware and it opens screens that the users use to manage data being connected for production controllers. What happens is even if all the computers on the network are logged off certain files on the server can not be accessed for editing, and what is displayed is that a user has that file open. However, if the domain controller is unplugged from the network by physically unplugging the network cable. And then the file is renamed and save…

I am trying to convert a physical server into a Virtual Server. When I attempt to capture the image of a Dell Poweredge 2950, the capture progress goes wacko after 85% and the controller services takes all the available memory. The Deployment Agent ends up disconnecting and the image capture never completes. The Job history reports the below information: Capture progress: 10% (4912113 of 49121131) Capture progress: 20% (9824226 of 49121131) Capture progress: 30% (14736339 of 49121131) Capture progress: 40% (19648452 of 49121131) Capture progress: 50% (24560565 of 49121131) Capture progress: 60% (29472678 of 49121131) Capture progress: 70% (34384791 of 4912…

by Guest ITDUDE27- 6 replies

Hi. I'm experiencing a problem with my DC, which host Exchange, IIS. When I manually run the windows update via the browser I get promt to install the ActiveX for Genuine verifycation. After I select install ActiveX, it check for updates for maybe 2 seconds than it prompts me for the ActiveX install all over again. It like it caught in a loop. This only started when I ran the last Windows update on the 27th of June I believe. Any thoughts? Everything works fine with the exception that I can't get updates. SBS 2003, Exchange 2003 R2. Any help on this would much appreciated. Thanks.

User rights.

I've got a user that happens to be a general manager for a client and he is demanding the ability to install software on his system while logged in with his username. I don't want to give him that ability but wanted to ask here if there is *any way* to give him that level of access 'safely'. I don't think there is so I bow to any experts here that can show me the light. I've been told our support contract hangs in the balance so I really want to be right if we have to go over his head. What started this was him getting a Treo and not being able to install the software 'right now without all this administrator B.S.' Thanks for any assistance. It'…

Share access problem 2003 member server
by Guest Monkey1888- 3 replies

Hi, The logon dialogue box appears asking for the user name and password. When the password and user name is entered they can’t access the share. If they attempt to browse to the 2003 server via network neighbourhood they can’t even view the share on this server. When they click on the server in network neighbourhood they are prompted for the user name and password. This is not the case when they browse to any of the 2000 domain controllers in this domain as they can see the shares listed when they click on the 2000 DC name. How to configure a Server for an additional Domain.

Okay I have a PowerEdge 1750 server that was taken out of an Enterprise network setup and was given to me to install in a remote office. They don't want me to disjoin any of the domains as they want to be able to retrieve the data if needed. The server is currently configured for roughly 7 domains (when I am prompted to log in under Log-In To I see various domains and not just one primary domain) , i.e. addot domain, nvs domain, nhsta domain, abc domain etc etc... My task is to configure this server for the local domain TTB. Now I have only setup servers from scratch and have no problem creating a DC or Child DC but I am not familiar with the process of creatin…

Routing, static routes etc. how does it all work.
by Guest Clubsprint- 1 reply

G'day I've just upgraded out Firewall, Internet pipe and all connected routers. My Firewall is Checkpoint on a 2003 Server. It has 4 interfaces (Internet, LAN, DMZ and other Org) I'm having some big problems and it all seems to be reated as to how routing works on 2003. Before the upgrade I had a small number of static routes to send external traffic to the correct path and that was it. I didn't have default gateways defined on the network cards either. Now I have to have a default gteway assigned to my Internet interface and I've had to include a number of Static Routes to my internal network. I've been trawloing the web for some accurate info on …
