Update ODBC driver for existing DSN
by Guest Rabbit- 0 replies

Hello everyone, I have a middle-tier server which has quite a lot of ODBC-DSN entires, connecting to all our R&D databases. My problem is that the ODBC Administrator does not provide an option to change/update the actual ODBC driver for a connection. After upgrading, e.g. Oracle 9 to 10 i need to change all existing DSN setting to use the 10g Driver. How do i do this without removing all and re-entering? I tried changing it through the registry, but apperently this doesn't work as well as i thought. Thanks

Windows 2003 SP2-Very Slow to install in Domain Controller
by Guest sa-kintoh!- 0 replies

Hi, I have one DC and 3 member servers. I have applied service pack 2 on the three member servers and finished in less than 20 minutes. However, when I did on the Domain Controller last August 11 the installation still is for more than 24 hours. I have stopped and reverted to the old settings and did it again yesterday, August 13th. Three times it prompted me that it was not able to backup cpu.inf, xpob2k3.dll and dxdiagn.dll. After 24hours of running, it prompted me that it was not able to find adminpak.msi. Even though, I've pointed it in the right direction, it was still not able to find it. I've tried a series of retries and it push through and to date, …

by Guest charlestek- 1 reply

When I am doing large downloads (Visual Studio 2008 beta for example) from Msdn, the "System" process (NOT System Idle process) consumes near 100% cpu and prevents me from doing anything else on the machine. I tried snooping the System process tree with Wininternals latest Process Explorer, but none of the subtree items that are children of "System" show any high cpu usage. HELP!!

XP PC Blue Screen After Login
by Guest RandyH- 3 replies

I know this is a server group, however, I need to ask.... We use roaming profiles. When an old server is offline, users get a blue screen (no desktop) after logging in. All the old shares were created on the newer server. This morning, the old server is dead, users can't log in. administrator can log in. I can log the users in here at this location. I disabled roaming profiles on one user, that didn't help. I removed and readded the PC from and to the domain, that didn't help. Any thoughts? TIA

Office 2003 SP2 + Server 2003 + Server 2003 SP2 = Freeze?
by Guest thatotherguy- 0 replies

Hey all, Ive got a Terminal Server running Windows Server 2003 with Office 2003 SP2 running happy as larry, but a couple of months ago, I thought Id throw the SP2 for Server 2003 at it because, you know, Service Packs are supposed to be good things. A couple of days later, the server had it's first ever freeze. All user accounts started locking up (not all at the same time, sort of like dominos falling over) and while the server would still accept incoming RDP connections, it would freeze immediately after login, so we had to restarted the server (which is a pain becuase it's hosted off site). Being it's first ever crash, I didnt think much of it, th…

Media Center Receiver Service
by Guest J Wolfe- 1 reply

When I boot up I get a message that the Media Center Receiver Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. I click the error reporting or don't send block, and the message disappears, but returns about 6 seconds later. This cycle just keeps repeating leaving my computer just about useless. Any suggested repair? I see where others have had the same problem, but don't see a fix listed.

Export Printer Logs

Hi, We are running Windows Server 2003 as our print server. I can see the logs as they appear for printing, but there is no way that I know of to export them. Is there a place where they are stored that I can re-arrange the data? Is there a simple tool availible to export them? Ideally, if they could be dumped into Excel that would be great. Thanks in advance, Derrick

mandatory profile and GPO problem
by Guest Will Sellers- 4 replies

Help! I have no hair left. Objective: using a combination of mandatory profile and a GPO for a student OU that will give a student a share folder and lock down the desk top. My approach: In a GPO I define the lockdown settings. I specify the logon.bat which uses net use to set the drive mapping to a shared directory for students. I also defined the profile path //server/profiles/mandatory In the Mandatory profile I establish how the desktop will look (icons etc). To test this I have student-A student-B Student-C that belong to a studentrights OU which has a studentgpo. To create the mandatory profile (which may be the problem) I did the following steps:…

Looking for ideas

I use a batch program to print out several hundred documents to a Canon multi-funcion copier. In this process there are both letter and legal size documents and I use the Canon software to compress the legal pages to the size of letter. This has been working now for well over a year. I installed a new Canon MFP (different model) to our environment and it apears to have corrupted something w/ the existing print drivers and I cannot get the original program to work properly. Here is why I am not completely convinced that it is an issue w/ Canon. I print to a different model copier (we also use Konica), the exact same result appears (legal is getting cut o…

Hi All, I have a share access issue that I can’t solve. The problem exists when attempting to access a 2003 member server share for a PC’s in different 2000 child domain. For example I have a main domain called N.co.uk and then several child domains. All of these domains are running two Windows 2000 DC and several XP clients. All was working fine until I added a windows 2003 member server to host share on one of the child domains. The users on the child domain that hosts the new 2003 server can access the shares fine, the users on the parent domain can access the shares but any users on the other of the child domains cannot access the shares. They are…

Turn off a hosted Website
by Guest Diane- 1 reply

I recently decided not to host a website internally, but rather use a hosting service. The hosting service is working great, but I now have an internal issue. When trying to access my website from inside the network, I point to the old server where I was hosting it originally. How do I stop the network internally from pointing to this old website on an internal server? Thank you for your time. Regards, Diane

I've downloaded windows server 2003 r2 32bit enterprise trial (kor) and some minutes ago I started to installing it. But the product key which I've memorized doesn't match. I've tried the link to product key verification from the mail but the result was same. Finally I just skip the phase and continue to installation. In the windows i retried validation with the key from mail but failed also. How can I do from now on? Is there anybody who experienced same problem with trial key? (especially Korean version)

Custom MMC
by Guest WallyG- 3 replies

I created a custom MMC for a new network admin in our organization. I only want him to be able to manage a couple OU's in AD. It runs fine from the server I created it on. I emailed the custom MMC to him and it will not open. I even tried putting it in a share for him. Same thing. I tried running it on my laptop and it will not run either. I followed this tech article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/230263 Why won't it open on anything other than the server I created it on?
