Novell 6.5 to 2003 R2
by Guest Jim Krebs- 1 reply

I will be moving our organization off Novell servers to Microsoft in the next few months. We use Exchange for our email and have AD already completely populated with OUs and users so no migration there is desired. My problem is a tool to migrate the files. I'd prefer something a bit more reliable than click/drag/copy, but every tool I've come across wants to do a complete user as well as file migration. I realize the time necessary to get rights set up again will seriously increase, but again all of our users are already in AD and the OU structure there does not map to the current Novell NDS structure. It would be great if the tool would allow you to…

I have a small network with two windows 2000 domain controller and one windows 2003 R2 member server with exchange 2003 sp2. Server1: domain controller (FSMO), DNS, win & DHCP server2: domain controller (file server) server3: windows 2003 R2 with exchange 2003 server What is the best way to upgrage the domain controller? I would like to do an upgrade than a clean install if possible. My plan is to upgrade server1 first (to a windwos 2003 domain controller). then upgrade server 2 to an additional windows 2003 domain controller. will that be the best way to upgrade? -- VKS

Hello, I have a Windows 2003 standard server installed from altris. It was working fine until we had to reinstall Windows due HW failure. Now everytime I add the server to the domain, that is controlled by two Win 2k servers, I begin to get serious problems. First error is that several services like ipsec and task scheduler wont start. Second I noticed that my network connections was totaly empty. Also I can't get to disk management. I remove computer from domain, and computer returns to normal. any idea what might be the cause of this problem.

We are running Server 2003 on Compaq Prolian ML370, 6 SCSI hot-swappable 36.4G drives, 2 mirrored O/S and 4 Raid 5, software as no array controller available for hardware raid. Originally, one HD failed. It was replaced and the mirror recreated. Next, RAID array disks, 3 offline and failed. Ran HP diagnostic and 3 of 4 drives tested bad. Replaced drives, recreated array, restored data. Now receiving following error: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk3 during a paging operation, EVENT ID : 51and SCSI Physical Drive Status Change. The SCSI physical drive with SCSI target 2 connected to SCSI bus 4 of the controller in slot 0 has a new status o…

I have a Windows 2003 domain with 2 dc's that are both running standard edition. I want to add an Enterprise Edition server to my domain so I can install IIFP. Will I have any problems doing this and should this server hold any of the roles over the standard servers? The domain is 2003 native at both the forest and domain levels. Thanks, Bob

Server Licensing Questions
by Guest Ben- 0 replies

Hi, I've just been asked to look at licensing for a client, and I have a couple of questions, that I'd like to get straight in my head, as I still find the whole licensing area complex! If the client is running 1x File/Print Server (Win 2003 standard server), 1x Exchange Server (2003), 1x Update/Web Server (Win 2003 standard server), & 1x ISA Server (2006) and they have 10 users, they need: 1) 10 Windows CALs cover all 4 servers, as long as servers are configured in "per seat" mode? 2) If they brought 10 Core CALs this would cover them for all 4 Windows Servers, and the Exchange server (as well as any SharePoint/SMS servers they might get in…

Windows 2003 SP2 RIS Server locking up
by Guest victor.neimeyer@gmail.com- 0 replies

Ever since we upgraded our 2003 RIS server with SP2, which replaced RIS with Windows Deployment Server, the server randomly locks up. It stops responding to pings/network requests, and you can't terminal into it. If you go to the console, it'll let you get past the login screen, but then it sits there. You have to hard power it down and bring it back up. This happens about once every two or three days, especially after we RIS a (relatively) large number of computers. Has anyone else seen this, or have a fix for it? Thanks!

IE 6 Problems
by Guest HNNCSB- 0 replies

Hello, I have several Windows 2003 Enterprise servers. On one of the servers IE 6 is acting oddly. I can open a home page on it (internal or external), but getting beyond that the issue. If I type a new URL in the URL field, the old URL remains, and the browser just seems to sit there, but the process is taking up resources. If I close the IE 6 window, another will appear with the site I had newly typed. DNS is fine, no issues with viruses, adware/malware. I think IE6 is somehow corrup and I'd like to just do a re-install. Is it possible to uninstall/re-install IE6 on a server? I cannot use IE7, as this is a terminal server and IE7 is not su…
