Proxy GPO is not applying. Ideas??
by Guest JT- 0 replies

Hi All, Having a real bugger of a time applying a proxy GPO setting either to user or computer. Publishing the GPO from a windows 2003 native domain to xp sp2 clients running ie6. The policy is applied as it should be but the computers are not picking up the proxy configuration and applying it to IE6. All other policies work fine. There is no policy in place that can/will effect proxy settings in this case. I have seen these problems posted by others but have not found a solution. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi, I'm trying to gain access to an old windows server 2000 (not Domain Controller) we have standing around the office. It hasn't been used for 2 years or so but is still running. I can get local adminstrator access on it, but I can't logon to the profile that i need. The profile belongs to a Domain User (who is a member of the local administrators group). The domain controller the domain user belongs to, was discontinued last year. The new domain controller has a different name. How can I gain access to this profile/domain user? I don't just need access to the files, but rather the installed programs and settings. Thanks in advance for any pointers you…

eventvwr.msc is not a valid win32 application.

I installed Symantec Corporate on my Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2. After some updates, I rebooted the server. As soon as I would login, it would immediately log me out. I read somewhere that I needed to copy a good copy of userinit.exe to the server's C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory as wsaupdater.exe. I did and tried to login. No luck. I noticed that almost as soon as I finished copying the file to the servers system32 directory, the file was changed by "something" because the file size changed. So, I fired open services.msc on my workstation, which is on the same network as the server with the problem. From the services panel, I connected to the server with th…

Auto sync briefcase?

I'm trying to set up a laptop for our nurses. They mostly work off line and connect to the network (directly or via VPN) to either sync their medical database with the master on the server or work connected via our Citrix PS4 farm. They have no local applications installed on the laptop other than the medical database client software and the Citrix ICA client. Only one network drive is defined and no printers (HIPAA concerns)... I've been asked to try and make some network files available to the nurses so that they can edit them in disconnected mode and then send/upload to the network. I've looked at several options, but they all seem to focus on sy…

Disk 0 Raid 1 mirror problem
by Guest Mike- 5 replies

Folks, I have a Windows 2003 Server with 2-73Gb SCSI disks setup in a Raid 1 configuration. It has worked great until yesterday. A message appeared on the screen saying that one of the drives had a error and my mirror was no longer working. It turned out to be Disk 0. I booted off of the mirror (Mirror Drive C - Secondary Plex) and the machine came up fine. I ran Dell Diagnostics on the drives, and it checked out fine. Dell thinks the drive is fine. When I look at Logical Disk Manager, Disk 0 has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point (I guess referencing a problem), and Disk 1 has no such issue. When I right click on either disk the "Break m…

2000 printer driver on Server 2003R2
by Guest Magoo- 3 replies

Is it ok to install a win2k print driver on a windows server 2003r2? the printer is very old and the company is no longer updating the print driver - i do not want to introduce any sort of instability to this server. i am under the impression that win2k and win2003 are similar enough that you can use the print drivers released for win2k on the 2003 server, correct? thanks for your comment. magoo

Hi, I've installed SP2 on a copy of our server in a virtual machine. The update is running through but when I restart the server I receive the following error message: "Service Control Manager: Windows could not be started as configured. A previous working configuration was used instead." This is exactly the same error as described in KB924690. Unfortunately they didn't post a fix for this error or write where to look at. The solution they have only prevent the message from appearing. SP2 on another server went fine.... Cheers

asp not working
by Guest runner7@fastmail.fm- 0 replies

On a Windows Server 2003 system I am working on, asp is shown allowed in the iis snap-in. When you put an asp file in the webroot directory with the html content, however, you can view the html pages in IE but the asp page will not show up. There is some redirection going on in the system, but I am not sure how it works. Could iis be redirecting pages according to their extension rather than their directory location? Is there something else I need to do to make asp work right? Any insight as to what may be our problem would be greatly appreciated.

custom Startup Items launcher
by Guest George Valkov- 2 replies

I have created a C++ application that strips admin privileges and can then start any application in restricted context (SafeRun). I want to integrate it with the start-up items: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup Current Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup .... so that Windows will only start my application and it will take care to run the others with less privileges. Is this possible and how? Thank You for any web links, examples and ideas! George Valkov __________________________ ....browse the web safer

RSOP vs GPEDIT ???
by Guest JN3- 0 replies

Studying for MCSE...need help with this one. OK Local GP's applied then SDOU...got it. RSOP... Resultant set... Now if Local GPO is applied, and clearly it is, why doesn't RSOP show the effects of the Local GP? Symptom: e.g. I assing an IPSEC policy on a server locally. GPEDIT shows it's there, IpSecMon shows its there, the policy is working according to network access tests. But using RSOP...no IPSEC policies to be found. Doesn't seem to be well documented... but RSOP apparently does not show the effects of the local GPO. Why not? This would seem to be useful info in the RSOP info, no? I'm only getting domain-based GP info in my RSOP display. T…
