OK, now I'll admit that at times I may not be the brightest light in the room but I have a pretty good understanding of repairing a failed software mirror. That said, the damn thing won't boot without using a floppy. Here is a brief history: Windows 2003 Standard Two SCSI disks, disk0 and disk1, in a software mirror disk0 fails Open Disk Management and break mirror Remove failed disk and replace with new disk (failed disk was a Seagate and Dell sent out a Maxtor as a replacement) Reboot to working disk using a floppy Rebuild mirror At this point, all is well :) Remove boot floppy and reboot server Nothing, it will not boot Re-insert floppy and re…

Autoenrollment - What does it do? Why do I need it?
by Guest Sean- 2 replies

Hi I'm trying to clean up our Active Directory Group Policies and we have quite a few that were configured by my predecessor and his predecessor ad infinitum... Some of the stuff I can see straight away why it's configured but other things I've never come across and I'm unsure how to proceed. One of these things is Autoenrollment of Certificates in Group Policy under User Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Public Key Policies/Autoenrollment Settings. This is enabled under my Default Domain GPO and in another GPO for All Staff in the next branch down. Any assistance much appreciated. Sean

Slow backup performance
by Guest mwd- 4 replies

We have a few volumes getting backed on a server running extremely slow throughput during the backup. If we create a new volume on the server, then copy the data from an existing volume, it is MUCH faster on this new volume. If you restore the same data from tape to the new volume, it is still slow. So copying the data works, but just restoring the data does not. We'd like to find the issue without have to recreate all of our volumes, if possible. We're thinking something with the ACLs maybe, but can't pinpoint the exact problem. Any thoughts?

by Guest North Coast Sea Foods- 4 replies

I must be missing something? Here is my problem: I had several users that were part of the Domain Admin group and they have Roaming profiles with a mapping to a specific folder to work in. Recently I took them out of the Domain Admin group and now they can not get their roaming profile nor access to their working folder (mapped drive)? I DID NOT CHANGE THEIR ROAMING PROFILE. When I add them back to the DomainAdmin Group - ALL IS PERFECT?? The sharing permissions I have is for evryone - FULL CONTROL. WHAT AM I MISSING???? THX

Time server
by Guest Jarryd- 2 replies

Hi, Why is it that even after I change the time on all PDC's, all servers for that matter, then successfully sync all time clients on the network thus updating their clocks to the correct time does the time slip back to the skew of five minutes that I had just corrected. How do I ascertain who the timer server for the domain is and where that server is getting its time from? I don't want the time server to ever update its time. TIA, Jarryd

We are experiencing a significant problem surrounding COM+ on our clients productions servers. We have been investigating this for quite some time now, and answers are few and far between. We cannot seem to get a valid dump from the machines either, and this adds to the frustration with this problem. There are some COM+ Rollup Packages available have these solved the issues for anybody here? And how can we access these items as quickly as possible? Here are examples of the errors: Event Type: Error Event Source: COM+ Event Category: SVC Event ID: 4097 Date: 8/8/2007 Time: 3:47:44 PM User: N/A Computer: NAUSTNA-SRV019 Description: The run-ti…
