How to create a replication server
by Guest Marco- 0 replies

Hello. I have to exactly server. Same model, same hardware. One server is a file printer server the other one was an exchange server. No I'm not using that server as an exchange server I would like to configure it to be a backup server. My idea is to have a exact copy of the file printer server. If for any case if the file printer server goes off I have the backup server (the old exchange) to work. Users wouldn't note the difference. Regards, Marco

I am not sure if this is the place, but when I type in xxxxxx.com or http://xxxxxx.com I can't get to the site. I have to type http://www.xxxxxx.com. I moved my site from Unix to Windows. In Unix I can add a line to the .htaccess file. How do I do this for IIS? Thank you in advance.

W32time and moving operations master
by Guest justmark- 2 replies

I've built a new DC and made it my operations master. The old DC was configured for time updates from time.windows.com but that didn't seem to work very well. Anyway, I want to make my new operations master point to an outside time source - what do you all recommend as this source? Also, how should I go about making my old operations master point to my new operations master for time synchronization - just delete all of the entries pointing it outside? Thanks! Mark

Recommendation for copying Data
by Guest Scott Micale- 2 replies

I am in the process of taking 2 EIDE data drives out of my server and replacing them with new WD SATA3 drives in a Raid 1 configuration. The drive configuration shouldn't be a concern really. I just would like to know what is the best way to copy the data from the old drive to the new so that my ACL's remain the same and the share information. I am pretty sure the share info is going to have to be re-created, but I want to make sure I am correct on this statement. Right now both new and old drives are setup in the server and can be accessed. Thanks -Scott

"Secure" approach for remote execution of commands (least priv)
by Guest msb-2007@nospam.nospam- 1 reply

Ok, I'm trying to figure out the "best" (ie: simple, yet secure) way to provide some limited remote command execution priviledges for a subset of non-admin users. We don't want to this team to be a domain admin group, but want them to be able to remotely enumerate network connections (ala "netstat -a -n -b") and the running processes on remote domain machines. We looked at using psexec for the netstat, but I don't really see a secure way to limit user rights with that approach.. if they can psexec something remotely, I suspect they'd effectively have a vector to run various applications as admin (which is pretty much the same as giving them local a…

turning off roaming profiles (just clearing profile path isnt work
by Guest Laeelin- 1 reply

Our network is using windows server 2003. There are about 10 of us and only one actually needs a roaming profile. The last network admin setup everyone as a roaming profile and I want to move everyone except for one user back to a local profile. (some profiles are huge.. in the 2g-4g range causing long log-on times and extra network traffic) On the server: In Active Directory Users and Computers I selected the server, clicked the users folder, right clicked on an account and selected properties. On the profile tab I deleted the profile path (left blank). On the local computer: I checked in system properties -> advanced -> users, and the profile i…

move license to different machine?
by Guest Gary Karasik- 6 replies

Hi, Question: Can an activated W3K3 license be moved to a different server? Situation: A client with a W2K3 site license has bought a business with a stand-alone W2K3 server. The want to move the newly-purchased server to the site with the site license, "de-activate" it, then license it for use under the site license. They then want to use the "old" license at a different location not covered by the site license. Can this be done? And if so, how? -- GaryK

I want to move all my network files and shares to a new server. One of the shares is for storing all our users redirected My Documents. Are there any issues with moving the redirected files to a new server? What is the best procedure to do this? Should I modify my group policy settings first and then copy the files from the old server to the new server? Thanks
