Yes, if you go to the Appearances tab and select Icons from the drop down, you cant set the font size (and the font itself) there. .... and registry cleaners are frowned upon around here :-)

Printer Help--Spoolsv.exe
by Guest VFP Developer- 2 replies
I am running Win/2000. I found I could not send anything to the printer and when I looked in the control panel, I found that my printer drivers all disappeared! When I tried to add one in the control panel, I received a message about no resources available. I rebooted the machine and when the machine restarted, I received this message: Program Error Spoolsv.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. I don't know what this means or how to access the error log. Can you suggest how I can correct this problem? Many thanks.

How to stop auto-play of CD
by Guest Ray K- 4 replies
Every time I stick a music CD (standard cda format) into my CD-ROM, it starts playing. A player control appears, but even if I X it to close it, it continues to play each track. If I right-click on the blue bar at the top of the player, I do not see an About option to identify the player. Task Manager doesn't show any application or process that may be responsible. What's doing the playing? How do I disable Auto Play? Thanks, Ray

Opera messed me up
by Guest Brett Holden- 3 replies

Hello, All! After installing the Opera browser as my default web browser I decided that it was not all it was cracked up to be. I uninstalled it. Now, my IE works fine for most browsing, but if I click hyperlinks imbedded in email (I use OE) nothing happens. Some of the hyperlinks in my favorites menu also do not function. I went through the process of resetting HTM, HTML, etc. file association in Windows Explorer(> Tools> Folder Options> File Types) - or at least I think I got them all. I even re-installed IE6. It's been several years since my last Win2000 OS load, and I am planning on re-imaging my sytem next month - but I don't want to do it r…

I am on Windowns 2003 but 2000 command should work on 2003 as well. Is there a command which will show me disk usgae sorted by disk space so I can find which files are utilizing most of the space. I do not want to buy any third party tools, looking for a command or something from sysinternals which can be run to get this information. I am a UNIX guy learning Windows. Thanks a lot.

virtual memory
by Guest Gordon Biggar- 17 replies

I write a lot of Word programs (Office 2000) in which I am inserting photos, etc. Of late, I am receiving virtual memory warnings, the system saying that I am low on virtual memory, and that it is going to have to increase same. My programs are not terminated, however. I have a 200 gig hard drive (C:) with 260 MB of RAM. There is 87% free space, and my Word files are only a few meg, or so, in size. Virtual memory on my C drive is set for 400-450 MB. I read in the HELP section that the pagefile.sys should preferably not be located on the same drive with other system files. Since I have another hard drive (E: 4 gig free), I set up a file on that drive (450…

Is there a way to increase the character limit of the "Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on"? We're in a Win2K/2003 mixed domain. I don't think it's possible, but thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks!

AVG killed a file - now W2K says no access
by Guest Will Renkel- 3 replies
heres the problem... Yesterday I downloaded/installed the latest virus definitions for AVG. Suddenly it said a CYGWIN executable - df.exe - has a virus and disabled access to it. FYI - it runs just fine on other puters and was running just fine on so called bad puter. So I disabled AVG, but now W2K wont allow me access to the file. Can someone give me advice as to how to fix W2K? Yes - I have contacted AVG but no response from them yet. -- --------------------------------------------------------------- Will Renkel Wheaton, Ill. ---------------------------------------------------------------

what make system time changes?
by Guest ykffc- 4 replies

OS: Windows 2000 server When we had Daylight saving time effective weeks ago, the system time of this machine failed to adjust automatically (although I have the checkbox on to adjust automatically). I can understand this as Microsoft no longer supports this old version of OS and they no longer produce updates/patches for this. For software compatibility and other reasons we haven't upgraded this machine. However, I don't think it should be the end of the world. It is a matter of seconds to adjust the time by hand. Two days ago I started to adjust the system time from say 13:15 to 14:15 (2:15 pm). But after a while, say after 30 minutes, it was dis…

Reboot command no longer works in Task Scheduler
by Guest Oliver- 8 replies

The following bat script (as a file.bat) which I put on a task scheduler no longer works (W2K service pack 4). Shutdown.exe /L /R /T:120 /C How can I fix this? The shutdown has to work on each Saturday to refresh the server memory. Also, as a related solution to the above problem, how I can get the event viewer to email me an alert when it triggers certain ID code? Our main problem is that the server shutdowns expectedly and I suspect it is the event viewer getting full. So I am hoping someone will have the solutions. Oliver

ntbackup force overwrite
by Guest Doug M.- 5 replies

Hi I've copied a batch file script that I found on the web to force ntbackup to use a removable external USB hard drive. However, the ntbackup stops with the message "the media is not blank - do you want to overwrite?" or something to that effect. Since the script runs late at night, the backup doesn't run. Thanks in advance for the help. Here's the script: rsm.exe refresh /LF"external USB" sleep 30 for /f "Tokens=1-4 Delims=/ " %%i in ('date /t') do set dt=%%i-%%j-%%k-%%l for /f "Tokens=1" %%i in ('time /t') do set tm=-%%i set tm=%tm::=-% set dtt=%dt%%tm% C:\WINNT\system32\NTBACKUP.EXE backup "@C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Setting…
