"Socket 0 Error" / IRQ conflicts
by Guest David D.- 10 replies

I have W2K Pro SP4. My system frequently crashes with a "Socket 0 error". It does not crash if running in safe mode with no internet connection. IRQ conflicts might be the culprit (although I could be wrong about that). My system reports IRQ 11 conflicts: 11 RADEON 7500 SERIES 11 NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller 11 NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller 11 NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller 11 Win2000 Promise Ultra133 TX2 IDE Controller 11 HPT372 UDMA/ATA133 RAID Controller 11 CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device 11 VIA USB Universal Host Controller 11 VIA USB Universal Host Controller 11 VIA USB Universal Host Controller 11 Realtek RTL8139/810x Fa…

SEARCH missing
by Guest Bruce- 3 replies

Recently in my Win2K: 'SEARCH ' item on the 'START' button is missing; right-click (on a drive or file) sometimes does nothing and/or 'PROPERTIES' on the right-click menu never works if I do get a menu. I have run Adaware, Spybot, Avast & XoftSpy. They all find nothing of note [log files, and tracking cookies perhaps]. Obviously somthing, somewhere, sometime changed something in the registry I'm guessing. I have looked on Microsoft's knowledge base, but never found anything close to my problem. I have looked for information about the registry elsewhere, but there is soooooooo much, that I have not been able to sift through it to find what I need. …

administratior denied access to local policy console/ftp problems
by Guest Help is always greatly appreciated- 0 replies
- 355 views
Documentation suggests the importance of enabling local log on user rights for iusr_computername (the anonymous account taken on by any visitor to a public FTP site) and indeed when I try to enter the site via browser from another box access is denied even though the welcome message I put in there appears. But it still says invalid port command 500 and asks me if I have permission to enter the file after setting NTFS permissions correctly I think I want to check local security policy but it's locked, even when I attempt access to that administrative mmc console as an administrator. (Note this ftp server is just on win2k pro) Suggestions please? Also wha…

Today there are more than 10,000 free desktop themes available on the internet; just download as much as you want and preview the zipped files with DesktopMaster. If you like one of the downloaded desktop themes, install it with one mouse click. Make your OWN desktop themes with DesktopMaster and save them as zip files. Bring the pictures and sounds of your partner, childs, pets, holidays or hobbies to your screen and share your desktop themes over the internet. If you can't watch your current desktop theme anymore reset your desktop or choose a new theme with one mouse click. Hi all, Running W2K, SP4, with all the updates. Occasionally, when I have two explorer windows open, and I'm dragging and dropping files between folders, I get this error in the middle of a copy and/or move operation: "the file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect" The path shown in the error message box also sometimes has some weird, non-printing, characters in it. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks!

F-Secure cripples computer
by Guest phantom- 16 replies
One of the computers in my household has been crippled by a failed uninstallation of F-Secure, bundled in a package from my ISP they call Cogeco Security Services. Or something like that. What happenned was the computer suddenly reset, as if somebody pressed the reset button that doesn't exist. That was in the middle of uninstalling Cogeco Security Services. The result, is that the computer cannot connect to the internet any more. We can't figure out how to fix this; the computer has to be able to access the internet in order to reinstall the software, but it can't do that, so we can't reinstall it to uninstall it again. We have tried running the uninstaller "bw…

hello, i recently bought a new samsung 320gb SATA II drive, OEM: http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDiskDrive/SpinPointTSeries/HardDiskDrive_SpinPointTSeries_HD321KJ.asp (http://tinyurl.com/38s8bw) ....i installed it in a dell optiplex GX280, which according to the bios sees it as a 320gb drive. then i used the w2k install cd to re- install windows on it. the problem -- windows 2000 server is only seeing it as a 128gb drive, both in the win installer and in "Disk Management" post-installation. i installed SP4 and the latest bios for the dell (A08). any ideas on why it wouldnt be showing up at full capacity? ive never owned a SATA drive before, so may…

Outlook Express email problem (Windows 2000 professional)
by Guest Helpless in Ohio- 3 replies

I recently discovered (when I had no response to 2 job applications!) that when I click on an email address within a received email and send it - it doesn't register - the person it was sent to doesn't receive it and it does not appear in my sent folder. If I copy and paste the address into a new email, it works just fine. Roadrunner says it's a Microsoft problem; Microsoft wants $49 just to hear the problem - can someone out there help me??? I do not have the Windows 2000 software - the computer was a gift already loaded and the software didn't come with it.

by Guest kimiraikkonen- 2 replies

Hi, It may not be a problem and Nero or other burning softwares recognizes my real DVD-RW as DVD-RW in W2k, but i see my DVD burner as "CD-ROM" drive in "my computer". There's no recognition problem but in XP DVD burner is recognized as DVD-RW, but in W2k pro+SP4 my DVD burner is shown as "CD-ROM" in "My computer". Is it normal and why? Thank you.
