'code 39' with a tape drive
by Guest Terry Lemons- 5 replies

Hi I have a Windows 2008 x64 system, and I'm trying to use a Sony SDZ-120 SAIT tape drive. I've downloaded the correct driver (http://sony.storagesupport.com/node/464). But when I try to install the driver in Device Manager, I get the error, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing (Code 39)". I asked Sony technical support about this, and they said the error message means that is a problem in the Registry. I Google'd 'code 39', and found several KBs on how to fix a 'code 39' problem with DVD/CD drives. But I can't find anything about 'code 39' and tape drives. The instructions in the KBs fo…

OT Maybe. Intel S5000XVN Motherboard
by Guest Bob AZ- 12 replies

I have almost made a final decision to use an Intel S5000XVN Motherboard for a computer that I will use for Digital Photography. I will download the images from my DSLR, edit the images and then print them on an Epson 4800 Printer. I also need to make a decision about which processors. Is there any forum where Intel S5000XVN boards are discussed? Is anyone here using one for digital photography? I have looked at the Intel site and Emailed them but there replies are not helpful. Does the board really need an extended ATX case. Thanks for any assistance. Bob AZ

Dear Group, I can't find a technical monitor group, and many of you are at the cutting edge of compuer hardware as well as software. I am seeking an HDCP compliant 30" LCD Dual-Link DVI-D 2560 X 1600 Monitor to enable me to run Blu-ray on my computer as well as to have higher resolution and greater size in Windows Ultimate 64-bit. I just spoke with HP regarding their LP 3065, and I couldn't find anybody who knew anything. I have never liked HP much, and I am sure they just rebrand their monitors anyway. Samsung, whom I like, does no seem to have an affordable HDCP compliant monitor in that size and resolution. Any suggestions? Thank you! Jim

Audio Drivers Problem with SP2
by Guest ktemp72- 3 replies

Hello, I recently built a new system with Windows XP Pro 64bit with Service Pack 2 Operating System included. So far, I have had no success in getting audio working for my system. The problem lies within drivers for my audio hardware. When trying to install these drivers, I receive and error message saying: "HDA Audio Bus required". I have searched the internet for days looking for a way to fix this problem and have come across many different supposed solutions, none of which have worked. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=901105 This is the link that I have been referred to the most, containing the hotfix kb901105 for windows xp64. However, when …

Video drivers won't install - unable to load aticim.dll
by Guest Zootal- 13 replies

I can no longer get any of the ATI drivers to install. XP64, two ATI 3870s, crossfired. When running installer, I quickly get Internal Failure: Error Number: 0x80040707, followed by "unable to load aticim.dll". I removed the existing drivers, and now none of the drivers will install, no matter which version I try. I'm dead in the water. I can install them with XP32 just fine, it's only my XP64 installation that is dead. I'm not seeing this mentioned much anywhere, and have not yet found a solution. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have a screen saver, the Legend of Zelda WindWaker, which I rather like. When I try to install it, it tells me "This application cannot functin without the latest version of the Macromedia Flash plug-in installed on your system. AFAIK, I do indeed have this installed. Anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be looking for? You can find the error message here: http://www.deadice.us/stuff/ZeldaScreenSaver.jpg And the screen saver installer here: http://www.deadice.us/stuff/ZeldaScreenSaver.exe Disclaimer - I've long since forgotten where this came from - it was on one of my Zelda game or music CDs. Download at your own risk, don't run it u…

Creative Labs Audigy SE sound card driver installation woes
by Guest Bill Ross- 2 replies

Hi, I'm a fellow fool who bought XP64 and regretted it ever since because of the endless compatibility issues. My latest nightmare... I bought a Creative Labs Audigy SE sound card which had an XP64 driver which installs fine in Safe Mode but will not run if not in Safe Mode. Currently, the card is listed in the device manager with a yellow exclamation point. I am assure that it is compatible but I have spent many hours doing the various clean boot, uninstall and reinstall activities that Creative Labs has suggested. Is there an explanation? Thanks, Bill Ross

RE: ie 64

RE: ie 64 Drew, IE7 32-bit (the default one in Vista x64) has all the bells and whistles you are used to. IE7 64-bit looks more like a barebones, and faster one, because it lacks of flash animations, java and activex as they are all 32-bit. Some prefer IE7 64-bit, like Charlie, other IE7 32-bit. If you don't need the flashing gizmos, IE7 64-bit is all you need. WMI invalid class error
by Guest RigB- 0 replies

I use the command 'wmic product' to list the installed software on either the local or a remote computer. It works most of the time on x32 systems but when I use it on XP x64 or server 2003 x64 systems I get an Invalid class error 0x80041010. Same story when using WMI in a script. Does anyone know what the story is with x64 versions of Windows (Vista x64 works!). Another namespace maybe? Thanks, Tom Gilmour Tecsult Inc.

Restart when entering standby - Solved!
by Guest Carlos- 6 replies
- 3.6k views
Three weeks ago this new issue showed up overnight in my Vista x64 PC. Putting my PC into standby would cause a sudden restart (reboot) with no error message/BSOD. Just the black and white Vista text menu giving me startup choices (Safe, etc...) because the system had not been shutdown properly. What changes had I done three weeks ago? I had switched from NVidia 8800GT to ATI 8450, and updated RAID drivers for the jmicron controller in the mainboard. Blame the raid driver, go back to the older one. No joy. Blame 5% overclocking the ATI 8450 memory, eliminate overclock. No joy. Hmmm... this ain't gonna be easy, I thought. Aha! I had set in BIOS the Atlhon x2 …

Open Office and Photoshop hang ; GDi32
by Guest miso@sushi.com- 1 reply

Well, it is back again. My X64 running on an AMD64 X2 4400 gets in this mode where two programs hang: photoshop 6 and open office calc. I installed open office 3 and it made no difference. This is not a matter of software updates, since this problem mysteriously comes and goes. When photoshop hangs, it is in gdi32.dll. Here are the results from a search on gdi32.dll http://www.lazygranch.com/temp/gdi32.gif Now I assume the only gdi32.dll that matters are located in c:\WINDOWS \system32 and C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64 Now from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948590/en-us under "for all supported X64-based editions of WIndows XP Professional, we have Gdi32.dll 5.2…
