Hello, I had a user delete a bunch of files from a share. I was able to recover them but would like to know what user did this. Is there a way to find this out? It does not appear any auditing was turned on on the server. Also, how can I just turn auditing on only for permission changes to folders? Thanks. Kevin

by Guest Igor Karasik- 20 replies

Hi, We have KMS 1.1 service installed on windows 2003 server. Our KMS key (group B) activated on this server. We successfully activated 6 windows 2008 servers vs. our KMS server. The returned count from your Key Management Service is insufficient." 1) After reading different articles about KMS activation - if I understand correctly - I thought Vista machines will do activation if we have at least 5 windows 2008 servers OR 25 Vista machines. Apparently, even with 5 windows 2008 servers we need …

How to stop auto-play of CD
by Guest Ray K- 4 replies

Every time I stick a music CD (standard cda format) into my CD-ROM, it starts playing. A player control appears, but even if I X it to close it, it continues to play each track. If I right-click on the blue bar at the top of the player, I do not see an About option to identify the player. Task Manager doesn't show any application or process that may be responsible. What's doing the playing? How do I disable Auto Play? Thanks, Ray

Good morning! Okay, Okay......I know that several of you in here will kill me for this! Vera, Patrick, Jeff,.....sorry...but I did not do this!!!! I am simply trying to fix some things and want to make sure that I do not break things in the process.... Anyway, a client has a small Terminal Server farm (two servers). A Terminal Server Profile was not implemented. Yikes! I know! Anyway, most are using a Thin Client but some still use a PC / Laptop to access the Terminal Server. Some of the of these good people are Sales Folks who are almost never in the office and log on to their laptops locally (read: the "log on to:" part is populated with "myma…

Hi all. I am unable to rdp into my server after doing manual windows update. Upon windows update completion i would manually restart the server. Previously if i just click on the restart button from the windows update dialog box i would have this problem. All my other servers do not face this problem except this particular server. All my servers are of win2003 standard with sp2 and have the latest patches. Is there any setting i can do to prevent this issue? Thks in advance.

Hi, I have been having a reoccuring issue where my Windows DNS Server suddenly stops resolving high profile major websites (news.bbc.co.uk as an example), and the only way to get it to resolve these domains again is to clear the cache. This happens every few days. Is this a known issue, or is there something that I am supposed to be doing? Is there a long term solution? Regards Richard
