Windows 2003 R2 - Add Device CALS
by Guest Ian Zahn- 4 replies

Just a quick and easy one. I have a windows 2003 R2 domain controller, the only one in the domain. I have bought more device cals but not sure how to add them. I go to admin tools and select licensing, but it says the licensing server isn't running. I did read some where that windows 2003 turns this off. I noticed in the service (License Logging) is disabled - is this correct? If I start this service I can add windows server or back office So where do I add the extra device cals? Thanks

Re: permission to edit registry denied Hi, i was just wondering if there are any other ways to enable regedit.exe, because after every ".exe" extension, it says there is no association with the program, and for it doing this action. While I re-associated the File Type ".reg", the regedit.exe program is still disabled by my administrator. Please help me with this frustrating problem. autochk error on boot
by Guest Mwoolv- 1 reply

I got attacked by a trojan and have trouble booting my system. I'm running Windows XP. My error on startup is "autochk not found. Skipping Autocheck". After receiving error message, my system reboots to the same error. I'm caught in an endless loop. I've tried booting in SafeMode, but it doesn't come up. Only reboots. I've also tried booting from last known good configuration. Again, no luck. I've verified the autochk.exe file is located in the windows\system32 directory. If this is a registry error, how do I correct the error when I can't get to Windows? Any ideas how to get past this error?

My environment is Windows XP Pro SP2 with MS Office 2003 Pro. While *.doc, *.xls and *.ppt can be open using double-click, on the windows explorer, these documents appear as an undefined icon. Trying to reset the icon doesn't work, (Windows Explorer - Tools - Folder Options - File Types). Tried to use the Repair Icons in Tweak UI also cannot resolve the problem. What else can be done to show the correct icons ?

DrWatson
by Guest poatt- 6 replies

I want to know why DR Watson is making text reports of 4 gig size? When I open Dr Watson it always comes up with "No Problems". What possibly could the program be saying (on a system with no problems) to make a txt document of 4 gigs? That is a lot of words. Plus when I tried to open it(the document ,with word pad) it would not open. And the file is not protected in anyway.

Since using XP Pro...

MS is determined that I download, and keep (!) WMP v. 11. I do not need a retail store on my system, and remove it weekly. I've written to his Nibs about this, w/o a response, and I've heard others have, too. Is this a useless plea? I'm also receiving updates not applicable to my computer's programs, and have checked with OE NG about this, and I won't cause any harm by refusing to download the constant updates for Outlook, which is not on my computer. Please if this is applicable for this NG, tell me how to keep MWP v. 11 off of my computer--its like a trojan. Thank you, everyone. -- ct~·´¯`·.¸. , . ..·´¯`·..><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º>…

In our company, the director has requested that all desktops have the same look. They have created a jpg file they want distributed. I have several ways at doing this but the easiest way is to use the registry. I have created the following .reg file and execute it during log-in. regedit.exe /s desktop.reg Example Start ~~~~~~ Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\LastTheme] "Wallpaper"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,\ 74,00,25,00,5c,00,52,00,65,00,73,00,6f,00,75,00,72,00,63,00,65,00,73,00,5c,\ 00,6e,00,6f,00,6d,00,63,00,64,00,65,00,73,00,6b,0…

security questions & comodo firewall
by Guest Samantha- 9 replies

Hi, I just upgraded my cpu and mb and I can't setup a win98\xp dual boot because of no drivers for 98. I never allowed xp on the net because I didn't trust it. I think I read somewhere, that it gathers info about the hardware and software, then sends it to MS. I can understand this with 'only' their software but the hardware is my own business. Is there a way to safely surf with this OS? Someone put all the security patches together for win98 - did anyone do this for xp? There's like 100 patches to manually download. I installed Comodo Firewall and noticed that there are a lot of components listed to access the net. What ones can you safely block (like windo…

I have a DELL Inspiron 6000 running Windows XP Home Edition SP2. I was browsing the web searching for a medicine properties and I guess it was when the virus entered my computer. It has been almost 2 weeks now. The virus was (or is) a Trojan, it appeared as a yellow triangle with "!" sign in the middle resembling windows alerts; alerting me of potential spyware action. Minutes later a pop-up appeared and if I click on it (which I did by mistake, was chatting and hit the enter key when it poped-up) it will re-direct me to a home page which I never used. I also got my homepage changed (hijacked) to google. I had installed AVG anti-virus and it didn't detect…
