Security Log won't hold changes
by Guest lminegishi- 2 replies

Hey Guys, I've got a rather annoying problem right now. One of the 2003 servers we're running will not keep the event log overwrite settings when changed. Currently it is set to the default of overwrite after 7 days and it is getting filled up after about 3 days. I change it to overwrite as needed, apply/ok the change, go back in and it's still marked; but if I log out and back in as the same user, then check it, it reverts back to the old setting. Anyone ever seen this before? If so, have any insight for a resolution? Thanks for all your help!!

We have an application on the TS that uses access 2000 runtime. the server is windows 2003 server standard. A process access.exe keeps running at large CPU percentages causing the TS to lock up. The user can log off and the process keeps running. I can't kill the process and have to restart the server to stop it. Does any one know of problems running access runtime through TS?

Hi, I want to give one TS user rights to see process information under tsadmin connections so that he can remote control and close open programs if necessary. Does he have to be a local admin or is there another group/rights assignment I can make? As a regular user he can't see processes listed under other users. TIA

Drive letters do not show up in disk manager but do in windows exp
by Guest epsoanalyst- 0 replies

We failed to plug in the external hard drive for a scheduled incremental backup using Norton Ghost. This created a phantom partition with a drive letter G:. Following Symantec's instructions, I went to disk manager and deleted the partition. Since doing so, the drive letters for my operating system (C:) and data disks (D:) do not show up in disk manager but do show up correctly in windows explorer when I open "My Computer". Since this happened, I have not been able to schedule automatic backups because Symantec shows the drives are hidden. This is my wife's computer she uses in her CPA practice and there is a lot of specialty software installed. Rein…

Taking DC Offline Temporarily

Hello, I have a Win2k3 (Sp2) Domain Controller that is going to be moved to a new location. I expect it to be down for at least 10 days. Is there anything I need to do (if anything) either on the domain side or on the domain controller itself so the DC being offline for so long won't cause me problems when I bring it back online? Thanks.

We have a situation where our deskside staff has/is installing VirtualServer on a number of workstations, which is fine, but they are installing W2k03 Server as VM's in some cases. When doing so, they are having them join the domain, which we do not want. These are usually developers, is there any way that we can prevent the ability to joining a W2k03 server to the domain but allow those credentials to still install workstations to the domain?

Hi Folks I'm always SO glad to find you guys here :-))) I'm still using and loving Me and have had no problems with the OS for ages but have just reinstalled it after yet another C drive failure--my third in two and a half years :-( Maxtors and Samsungs) I've been reinstalling my essential programs and helpers for a week now but before I reup and setup my favorite image handler (PhotoImpact) I thought I'd ask if anyone has ever tried moving My Pictures out of My Documents (where it's buried!) and what the results might have been. I notice that TweakUI offers the option to move it but I'm reluctant to try that without knowing if the default folder-view of …

I receive the same error message if XP clients attempt to do the same thing. The server is 2003 and nothing stands out in the event log. Anyone have any ideas?

Terminal Services Kiosk

Hi all, I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 configured as a standalone Terminal Services server, and a few Windows XP Professional desktops part of an Active Directory domain. I want to create an Active Directory account that users can log in to in the desktops, but that will automatically open a Remote Desktop session to the Terminal Services server (they will then log in to the server using a non-Active Directory account). The account must NOT allow users to do anything on the desktops save automatically opening the RD session, and when the users disconnect or log out of the RD session, the desktops must log out automatically from the Active Directory …
