We were installing the driver for a bluetooth dongle on a few computers and found that, on one particular computer, the installation produces the warning saying "the software you are installing for this hardware has not passed Windows Logo testing..." We clicked on "Continue Anyway" and it works fine. However, I'm wondering why this would happen only on this one computer. All the computers are Dells, and they are all XP Pro SP2 with all the updates applied. All the computers have driver signing set to "warn." Any ideas? Thanks.

date not visible as a file attribute in Windows Explorer and other applications

I am in a pickle. The date function is simply not visible in Windows Explorer so i cannot see when a file was created, accessed etc. I can see the time in hours and minutes but not the date (day). This problem carries over to outlook when I reply to emails the Sent date disappears. Of course when I right-mouse click on a file and look at its properties I only see the time as well ..no date! Anyone have a suggestion.

Windows Server 2003 Logging
by Guest IshmaelDS- 9 replies

I need help finding a good log software. I have an issue with my 2k3 server that is not being caught by the event viewer. This server is running a Progress DB so I need it to be rather lightweight but fairly intensive as well. I'm not sure what the issue is, The system says it's rebooting but it doesn't reboot physically. When I log in it asks me why it shut down as it would from a unexpected shutdown and the event viewer says that it shut down but there are logs in the application viewer from seconds after the unextected shutdown and when i arrive at the server it's been less then 30 seconds and the system is back up with the DB's loaded. It's very odd. I…

VSS
by Guest Schmeg- 0 replies

Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 with all patches to date. Prior to SP2, no issues. After SP2 some intermittent VSS issues during backup. BackupExec v11 fully updated fails on shadow copy components and system state using MS VSS sometimes, sometimes it backs up fine. When it fails I get a VolSnap Event ID 39 that states: When preparing a new volume shadow copy for volume C:, the shadow copy storage on volume F: could not be located in non-critical space. Consider using a shadow copy storage volume that does not have any shadow copies. I have tried moving the location of the shadow copy, by default it was on C:, I moved it to D: where I had 60G free spac…

Removing search addresses 1 2
by Guest Reg Garbett- 39 replies

I use MSN rather than internet explorer. When I enter an address i.e. google in the address bar and then click on the green "search web" I can go to the site without problem. The problem I have is that when you enter an address in the address bar a scroll down list comes up under the address bar listing all the sites that I have been to so that you can select one of the listings if you are going to use it again. I have tried to delete this listing without success. I have gone to view history and clicked on view and selected all items listed but still cannot remove the address listing under the address bar. Any help would be appreciated. I contacted MSN and…

Is boot drive letter significant?
by Guest Ken- 10 replies

Hard drive crashed, took out the old one and replaced with a new one which is configured, as the old one, "cable select". Loaded XP Home via backup CD, but for some reason the new (boot) drive is "H", not "C", and there is no "C" drive per Windows Explorer. Will this be a problem, and if so, how can I get the boot drive to be "C"? The Disk Management tool won't let me change it, of course. Thanks in advance for your help. -- Ken

Dual Boot

Please excuse me if this isn’t the right forum to ask this question, but here goes. I have two hard drives on my computer. The original one, 80 GB, came with Windows XP home installed. I later installed a 120 GB hard drive to backup my files to. What I want to know is this: Is there a way to make both of my hard drives bootable so I can have two Windows XP Home operating systems on the same computer. I understand that this is legal. If it is, I would need step by step instructions on how to do this. I am moderately computer literate! I really appreciate any help I can get on this subject! P.S. If this isn’t the right forum, could you please direct me to w…

Clearing a HD

I have just now rearranged my devices on my computer and I added a second HD. I have Window XP Home Edition on a FAT32 Maxtor 38G HD and I add a Fujitus 8G which I had laying around. Now this drive is one that someone discarded but is also is a FAT 32 and has Windows which is "Not registered to me!" on it. Any how, I hooked it up as a Slave hoping to use it to store Image files on. How do I properly format it so I do not have problems breaching some Eula agreement? Thanks for the advice.

Word settings -- where are they?
by Guest LSordo- 8 replies

I searched "word settings" and came up with nothing; if I'm in the wrong forum, I apologize... I recently reformatted my harddrive. I thought I'd backed up everything needed to reinstall and get back to where I was, but there are some things I may have missed. Primarily, the settings in Word that have your personalized toolbar, keyboard shortcuts/macros and the like. I'm not certain that I used the save settings function to create a .opf(?) file, but if not, I'm reasonably certain I have them backed up on an external harrdrive. I can't find them though. If I have them, where would they be? Also, if I do find them, would I be back to pre-refo…
