Cabinet Self-Extractor
by Guest Dick- 3 replies

I am trying to install the Windows Fax client. When I attempt to install it from my original XP Pro CD, I get the message, "Insert the Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 CD." I don't have the SP-2 CD, just the original XP Pro. I can see the files on the CD that are needed, but they are compressed. I can't find the Win32 Cabinet Self-Extractor anywhere, or even how to install it. What's the secret? -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

Desktop icons have disappeared
by Guest jfaulkner44- 2 replies

It seems as if my friends think I know everything about a computer and Windows XP since I was able to help them with one or two problems, but that is a bad assumption. LOL So I am coming to you for help again. Why would all of the desktop icons disappear? When she asked me, she said her 'desktop disappeared' so I took that to mean all of the icons. Thanks so much,

Display problem
by Guest XS11E- 16 replies

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit and my video card is a nVidia GeForce 6200 LE. I installed Vista using the built in drivers but had continual problems with the monitor going black and then coming back on with a message that the display had stopped but recovered. It would do this, for example if I changed volume during a playback on WMP. The playback stopped, the screen went black and then came back on with the message, a few seconds later playback resumed. It got pretty annoying so I went to EVGA's site and downloaded the latest and greatest, now the display flickers badly or goes black as before but I don't get the message so the updated driver…

Windows Installer question
by Guest Skip- 6 replies
There's an application that I'm trying to install that uses the .msi installer. I'm using Windows XP Pro. A consistent error the application's installer reports is: "A later version of 'Bluetooth Software' is already installed on this machine. The setup cannot continue." Then the installer aborts the setup. The manufacturer has told me "We don't know, reinstall Windows". Which to me indicates they don't realize it's from the installer, not their software. It seems obvious to me that the version information would be installed in a registry key. The problem is that I have no idea how to track down the key that it would be located in. Can anyone…

I have used XP boot CD recovery console to format new drive NTFS, replace MBR and replaced boot sector but ASR will not restore.
