Hello-- We are migrating our webserver (IIS) from a box running Windows Server 2003 to a box running Windows 2003 -64 bit and when we try to register COM objects we are getting an error. Here is an error after trying to register a .dll: In a command window from the Windows/system32 folder... when we enter, "regsvr32 cdonts.dll" we get the following error: RegSvr32 "LoadLibrary("cdonts.dll) failed - The specified module could not be found." Best way to secure
by Guest Dragon- 2 replies

Hi, We are planning on setting up some 'regular' account password security and audits. This is a test lab to come up with some test config. In this config all users will be required to change their passwords every 30 days and other usualy audit settings. This is all good for all users except that I will have some service accounts that I do not want to apply this to. What is the best way to handle these exceptions? Thanks.

Since re-installing XP Pro fax adderss book is gone

Is there any way to find my fax address book? The MS Level I tech told me to back-up only Appl Data, Desktop, Documents and Settings, Favorites, and Local Settings. I questioned this four times, and then did what he said... All of my OE was missing, and my fax address book has gone zippo, too. Any place it could be on this install, in any of those folders? I could kick someone for this--and not myself. thank you, very much. -- ct~·´¯`·.¸. , . ..·´¯`·..><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º>¸. ><)))º>·´¯`·.¸. , . .·´¯`·.. ><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º>

SP2 compatibility issues

Article 926031 states that Windows Server 2003 SP2 has a compatibility issue with Exchange 2003 OWA and refers to another article (841560) for a resolution to the problem. From 841560 I infer that the fix is only for SP1. Is there any update to 841560?

Windows Key + E Fails to bring up explorer.
by Guest Peter Nimmo- 1 reply

In the last couple of weeks pressing the Windows Key + E, no longer brings up Explorer. I have looked at some of the registry hacks that are used to disable and then enable this key, but my registry does not seem to have had that change made. The following registry entry that I found online does not exist in my registry - there is no Scancode Map key. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout] "Scancode Map"=hex: The Windows key does work as it will bring up the Start Menu and respond to the other standard key combinations, its just that Windows + E does not work. I don't know if …

Performance monitor for Windows 2003 server

I have been monitoring a server with 4 G RAM, 4 CPUs, the disk: is at a 14 SAN RAID 5 disk group, I have setup the alerts, the following are some of the performance counters show in Event Log, I have some questions about them: 1) Counter: \\servername\Process(msmdsrv)\% Processor Time has tripped its alert threshold. The counter value of 792.187223329792 is over the limit value of 99. my question is: How is possible a CPU% is over 100%? Is it because there are 4 CPUs and it shows as 8 CPU instants in Windows, and number 792 means 792% when it sums up for 8 CPUs? 2) Counter: \\servername\System\Processor Queue Length has tripped its alert threshold. The c…

Dual Nics for video and data
by Guest Rename my folders- 5 replies

I have several Terminal Services servers and I want the video traffic for rdp to flow thru 1 nic and the network data to flow thru the other nic. I thought I saw this somewhere online but can't seem to find it again. It's supposed to improve performance. I have users that are complaining about using a certain application on Terminal services that uses images and it is really slow. The cpu and ram are ok and people who are accessing this app from their local machines in the office have no performance issue. So I narrowed it down to the video card on the server and the rdp video traffic that transmitts the video to the user is colliding with the data on…

by Guest Kat- 17 replies

I set up a new file server and I'm trying to access the C$ drive. I have added the domain admin account with Full access to the drive. When I try to access it with that domain admin login, I get the following error: \\server\c$ is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again. ---- I checked the server and I do not have any open sessions. Any ideas???

Currently I hqave serveral users, with roaming profiles, that use the same folder as Domain Admininstartors. Now I want to take the administrator privledge away from them and still let them use the same folder. How do I set all users as "Owners" of the folder? Would I set up another Group (non-administrator group) and add the users to that? thx

Add/Remove Windows Components needs warning

From a usability standpoint a warning like DO YOU REALLY WANT TO REMOVE ....? when the checkmark is cleared in the Add/Remove Windows Components action. It is easy when adding a component to think a checked component need not be added, so the checkmark can be cleared.

XP rollup?

Is MS ever going to make a rollup package to bring our systems up to date with all patches, fixes etc? I don't care for the web update business and really prefer a rollup.
