PDC - BDC Conflicts
by Guest Jean Paul Mertens- 15 replies

Hello to all, I have a problem with a BDC (windows 2000 server) who does not see that the PDC (SBS 2000) is back on-line. I have got my PDC crashed, and for some reason the NT-Mirror had stopped some time ago. I have taken the PDC out of the network, and the BDC took over the security with no problem. I have put my (early stopped) mirror disk as master and restored alle backups so that the PDC is ok. I have put the PDC back in the network and had to disconnect (temporary set them to workgroup) all workstations and servers from the domain and then reconnect them to the domain. So far so good until I tried to do the same with my BDC but he keeps saying th…

Networking 2 XP machines in office?
by Guest Pheasant PluckerĀ®- 1 reply

Hi there, We have a small office with 2 computers. Only one has had Internet access as we had to keep one machine stand-alone to run a custom application that was rendered inoperable as soon as the PC was networked. We no longer have a need to run this custom application and it would make good sense to network the two XP machines together to give the second machine Internet access, share resources, printers etc. We plan to connect the second machine to the existing switch/ADLS router that connects the first machine to the Internet. Both computers are same model Compaq desktops - the machine currently connected to the Internet has been upgraded from XP…

For the past couple of days, every window I open contains this message box: Windows- No Disk. Exception processing message c0000013 Parameters 7cc31d6c 7cc31d6c ..... What does it signify and what can I do to correct or eliminate it? It started when I was accessing PhotoBucket, if that might have any connection. -- Message posted via WindowsKB.com http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx/windowsxp/200708/1

Our workstations are running Windows XP. They are part of a Windows 2003 Domain. In the Remote Control tab of Properties for "My Computer", the settings are: - Enable Remote Control - Not reuqire user's permission - Level of Control = interact with the session From a Windows 2003 Domain Controller, I opened Terminal Service Manager, click Actions | Connect to Computer. it gives me the message "Server was not found". I thought I used to be able to do this over a year ago. Not sure what I changed so now I no longer can connect to remotely control the XP workstations. Please help. Thanks! I enter the IP address of an XP Workstation to try to Remote…

Cannot access web page by name due to too many group memberships
by Guest Arjan Schel- 7 replies

Hello, I'm not sure where to post this message, because it has to do with more then one specific area. We have users who belong to more than 300 groups. These users are having trouble to access certain corporate intranet websites by dns name. When we try the same pages through ip-address it works. When we remove some groupmemberships from the user, it also works. We've seen this with more users here (even with myself). This only happens when the webpage checks my account, for example sites that need to check my identity, to show my personal page.. This happens on IIS systems and Apache windows servers. We first thought of the MaxTokenSize registry value,…

Skype failure blamed on XP, Vista updates
by Guest HeyBub- 5 replies

"Skype, the internet telephony provider, said today that a massive, simultaneous restart of its users' computers was to blame for the two-day outage its service suffered last week. "Millions of users collectively downloading a routine security update from Microsoft and then rebooting their machines had caused what the company called a "critical disruption", prompting its peer-to-peer network to collapse. " Go ahead, blame Microsoft... http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/article2292536.ece

Help!
by Guest markbowman3- 2 replies

I recently had to reformat my hard drive. I reloaded all of the original software and all of the updates. I also re-installed my XP SP2. When I right click on a picture to save in my pictures it will only save as an art file or Bitmap. What setting do I need to change to get them saved as a jpeg? I don't recall having to do anything before to save them as a jpeg but now jpeg is not even listed as a file type option. -- Mark

dear all Recently rolled out 2003 sp2. It seemed to install without a hitch. This was our RIS server and working fine it is now obviously a mixed mode WDS server. however when i try and activate the server in the Wiindows Deployment Services MMC it fails with ACCESS IS DENIED. Nothing immeidiadatly apparant in event logs. when i look at the Remote Install\Advanced tab in the properties of the server (where all my images were listed) it says "Unable to Enumarate images on the Remote Instalation Server. the server may not be accessable at this time" I am logged on as administrator, Administrator is a member of domain Admins The server itself is a…

Hi Guys, I have a problem on a Windows 2003 SBS server. The server services stop respond to requests and when I attempt to login the domain is missing from the login box. It's strange I am unable to login due to the missing domain on the login box and services like DHCP fail to reply to requests. Anyone seen this before? Cheers Craig

Moving an Enterprise Root Certificate Authority
by Guest Baboon- 3 replies

I have an Enterprise Root Certificate Authority running on a Windows 2000 Standard, SP4 domain controller. I would like to move it to a Windows 2003 Enterprise R2, SP2 domain controller in the same domain. I don't know it it's as simple as exporting and importing the configuration; it seems that it might take more than that since it is AD integrated and it will be on a server with a different name. Can someone point me to an article and/or advise? I found an article on moving an NT 4 CA, but I don't want to assume the steps are the same. Thanks.

Windows updates and DVD
by Guest Jennifer- 5 replies

I sometimes play a DVD which has the option to click on chapters or sections. Recently it started crashing and turning itself off when it got to a certain point in loading the dvd. 2 or 3 times I restored it to a previous point and it would work ok but I think it is after it has installed updates - don't know which one - that it starts to crash again. The restore point that I can now take it back to to know it will work is a restore point of a previous date which I can't remember. Also could it be the new media player as I notice that some people are havng problems with that. I hope someone can help -- Jennifer

cannot update drivers on Sony Laptop
by Guest T5- 4 replies

I have a Sony VGN-A617B Laptop running XP Home, I have noticed that a lot of my drivers are quite old, i checked with driver agent and I am running 50% bad drivers but win update doesn't download updated drivers and the drivers that driver agent recommends don't work either. What should I do? For instance my ATI mobility x600 Graphics card has an installed driver going back to 2005, there is a 2007 driver but for whatever reason I cannot download and install it.

"A Disk Read Error Occurred" Under Windows XP
by Guest Rob- 4 replies

I can't start windows xp professional. I'm getting a message stating "'A Disk Read Error Occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart". My hd is a western digital wd2500jb. Their support site pointed towards the bios or cable as a possible source, I changed the cable and reflashed the bios, still no change. So I'm thinking I need to run chkdsk and fixmbr. I have tried: 0. Attempted System Restore with the XP disk. The system gets hung up (black screen) after it tells you to press a key to load from CD. 1. Loading KNOPPIX, did not work. 2. Loaded an old MEPIS I had around, worked and "mounted" the hard drive (whatever that means) and I was able to navigate, but …
