Is it possible to show the local area/activity connection icon on the task bar? It's the small icon of two computers. (Using Win98SE on another PC and connected to my ISP by cable) It doesn't seem as easy to find it like in WinXP :-)

HELP!!! Only 1 user can connect to TS on Win2k
by Guest PJinCanada- 1 reply

I am having the same problem as a couple of other posters. Seems that on the weekend 3 of my customers who have Win2K Terminal Servers can only have one person logged in at a time. I've focused on one of these customers to try to solve the problem. Here's what I've seen so far: 1. Trying to RDP into the box from a remote site or the LAN, could not connect. 2. Had user reset the listener from the console. 3. After reset, I could connect remotely, but nobody else could either remotely or on the LAN. 4. During connection attempts, no event is generated in the logs. 5. During connection attempts, the computer connection icon in the Terminal Servic…

DVD RW Vista 64 Compatibility
by Guest Seamus- 3 replies

Can someone please tell me a DVD-RW drive that properly burns media under Vista Ulimate 64 Bit? I have a Sony DRU-170C (which has a "Works with Vista" sticker by the way) which does NOT burn under Vista 64 bit. It works just fine under 32 bit, but not 64. So, does anyone know of a burner that really does work fully with Vista 64 bit? If so, please let me know so I can trade mine in for one that actually burns.

by Guest Steve- 2 replies

Using WindowsXP Pro I have an USB external harddrive. The majoroty of the times I plug it in my computer assigns it to F drive. Sometimes depending on what else is plugged in it may be assigned a different drive letter. Is there a way to ensure that it is always assigned the drive letter F irrespective of whatever other perpherials are plugged in? Can it be assigned a UNC that will always be the same? If so, how? Thanks! Steve

Hello Experts: This one has me stumped, and if someone could assist, I would be deeply appreciative. I have two PCs, which I will call OLD and NEW. Below are the settings: OLD 192.168.1.100 (IP) 255.255.255.0 (Subnet) 192.168.1.1 (Gateway) NEW 192.168.1.101 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 The new PC is brand new, and has Windows XP SP 2 running. The OLD PC has the same OS. Inbetween the two PCs is a standard router. If the Windows or Zone Alarm firewall is running, the PCs can not ping each other, even if allowed via zone alarm. After disabling the firewalls, the PCs can ping each other, and do appear in the arp -a command. After ensuring th…

Microsoft Products and Piracy Issues!!
by Guest John Honest- 7 replies

Is piracy a thing of the past as far as Microsoft products are concerned? We have had WGA and Activation for sometime now so MS products should be "piracy proof". I remember vividly MS telling us that WGA is designed to "protect" genuine customers. Does this mean product prices will now be reduced because everybody is buying genuine MS products? Or was this just another MS gimmick to make our life hell by forcing us to install unnecessary patches for its own pleasure.

by Guest roadstomadness- 2 replies

I have a ton of stuff on my external hard drive, which happens to be my E drive. I somehow managed to click safely remove hardware, thus removing my E drive. I went to Hardware Manager to try and recover it and got the following meg; Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47) To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again. I have not rebooted or anything yet. How do I restore this drive w/o losing its contents...? Thank you very much
