Since the Microsoft Security updates for August 14, 2007 our domain has had a degraded download speed from the internet. Our Outlook has problems with e-mails with attachments. When we disable the Microsoft windows firewall the problem disappears. Have there been reports of difficulties with this set of updates? Thanks! -- brian

Second hand computer reinstall ME
by Guest MrClean- 5 replies

I was given a second hand computer by a local college. Before gifting, they cleared the hard drive and installed Win98 on the laptop. The laptop originally ran ME on it (the original product key and info is posted on the computer), can I use a ME upgrade disk and the original product key to get this computer back to ME? Is there things I should do prior to install?

I am at a point where I am really confused. I am trying to setup a TS test user that will access specific applications (ie-MS Office Suite). Does anyone have a good example of what the GP setup would look like? Or, is it controlled somewhere else? If so, where and what does it look like?

RAM usage
by Guest Reg Garbett- 7 replies

The amount of RAM on my computer is 512MB. I am having a problem with some games on my PC such that they will not operate correctly. Contacting the game owner, they tell me I have too much RAM in use. When I go to "DXDIAG" I find 448MB of RAM with 403 used and 682 available. Checking the direct x listing I find I have at least 200 of them and do not know what they are for and so do not want to delete any until I know what they are and if I need them. I have tried removing items from the task bar which has helped reduce the usage but it is still too high. What do the games have to do with RAM usage when they have already been downloaded onto my computer. I e…

Roaming profile on Terminal Servers
by Guest Sam_Kedren- 6 replies

Hi, This is my first post on the forum, I hope to come here often as we have Terminal Servers set up in our network environment. I have a problem with roaming profiles. Here's the scenario, there are three terminal servers and they are set up for load balancing. When a user log onto a TS server, the load balancing will work its magic and direct the users to one of the three Terminal Servers, the profiles are located on Terminal Server 1, however when the user gets redirected to another terminal server, the profiles does not get moved acrossed. For example, the My Document path is set for Terminal Server 1, but the path aren't pointing to Termi…

SSL Alert

I'm getting a SSL Alert saying " The browser and web-site cannot communicate securely because there are no common encryption algorithms. " I'm trying to get on a stock trading web-site to do stock tradings. I've always used my Desktop PC, a Dell Dimension 8300 running Windows XP Pro Edition or my Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. I have no problems using those operating systems. This is the first time I've tried to use my DIY, well it used to be a Dell, but pieced together and now running great for a Windows 98 SE. It says I need to " Check the SSL protocol settings on the browser for SSLv3/TLSv1 protocol support. "…

I have be asked on separate occasions after updating if I wanted to make Express my default email service and I have said yes. This time I am not given this option. Is there a way to install the updates and keep Outlook Express as my email service? Thank you for any assistance anyone can give.

Logon Failure
by Guest Frank X- 2 replies

I used to copy all of the files on my office computer (WinXP Prof) to a portable drive by dragging them to a portable hard drive and dropping them. It always worked fine, but I can't do it on my home computer (also WinXP Prof) Whenever I try to back up all my files, I copy "MyDocuments" to one of those portable hard drives that I bought. But each time that I try, it only copies some of the files and then stops. I get the error message: "Cannot copy --------: Logon failure:account currently disabled" where -------- is the name of some seemingly random file. Then I have to restart the machine to get back into my account. When I check, it seems t…

Does anyone know of a list of the default, out of the box print drivers that ship with x64 Windows 2003? I'm trying to determine the level of out of the box printer support in x64 as opposed to x32. I need to know what drivers are included in x32 but not in x64 and vice versa. To my surprise, I can't find this information anywhere. Any help greatly appreciated.

Request for reboot on startup
by Guest Dark Hobbit- 2 replies

Greetings, Our university has automatic updates set to always on, but I generally check for updates on various programs manually also. Unfortunately the other week I manually installed some that were waiting to be installed automatically and now every time I boot the machine I receive the popup saying the computer must be rebooted to finish installation. It does not continue with the messages after I select No (fortunately) but it is a nuisance. Windows updates are not listed in Add/Remove Programs on our machines. Is there any way short of roll back of multiple weeks to fix this problem?

New Folders don't Sync as Offline
by Guest babbster- 0 replies

I have set up Offline Files on a Desktop & Laptop. Everything works & Sync fine. The only exception, is when a New Folder is created (on Desktop), as a Child of a Shared, Sync'd Parent Folder. The new folder is not sync'd. When the laptop is connected to the network, I can see them, open them whatever. I can manually (right click-Make Available Offline) set them and sync, but I need this to happen automatically. Any ideas?

Executables are shown as File Folders.
by Guest test- 2 replies

Hi Everyone, I have a pc running windows xp sp2. However this is the strage behaviour I am observing. When I click on Start => Run and type msconfig, I expect the system configuration utility to open up. However it is opening the msconfig in the notepad and showing all the executable code. So I went to the \windows\system32 folder and saw the executables. What I noticed is that all the applications (including msconfig.exe) are shown as File Folder instead of applications. I dont know what is going on. Is there any setting which might have caused this? Can some one help me out on this issue. Because of this, I am not able to run any utilities …
