Thin client set up
by Guest Gretchen Hembree- 3 replies

I am new to thin clients and am actually borrowing one from a friend to see if we want to make a purchase. I plugged the machine in and DHCP worked because it has a correct IP address for our network. I could also ping the server I want to connect to, but when I attempted to connect it would not for either our 2003 server or our 2000 server. I am confused why it didn't even issue it a temporary license. Is there something I need to physically do on the server to issue a license to a thin client? Thanks. ~Gretchen

DNS Clent Service Hanging
by Guest spamsucks@tiscali.co.uk- 0 replies

Hi For some time now (a couple of months) one of my PCs has been intermittently losing it's ability to resolve DNS names. I have 3 other machines on the same network all configured to use my wireless router as primary DNS server and they are working faultlessly so I'm (reasonably) confident it is an issue with the PC and not my router or ISP. I can work around the problem by restarting the DNS Client Service and the inconvenience is not enough to merit a rebuild just now but I would like to try and understand what is causing the problem in the first place. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what might be wrong or steps I could take to try and narrow it dow…

Would like to write batch file to copy all TXT files in a given directory and all subdirectories to a single target directory. I would like to write a batch file to copy all TXT files in a given directory and all subdirectories to a single target directory. This is so that I can select them all at once in an application. I have used xcopy to make batch files in the past, and I know what to do if I wanted the tree structure maintained in the target, but I don't. I want all files to be in a single directory. Any help most welcome. Thanks. Rob

Re: Cursor keeps moving to Start menu Thank you Jay. Have been looking for an answer to this problem for some months. It does appear that the laser mice are extra sensitive. Using the grip side of the mouse mat worked for me too. -- billy "Jay" wrote: > are u using a optical mouse (laser mouse) > > if so, i had same problem......had to use a different mousepad. all i did > was flip my current mouse pad upside down, so the grip was on top. > > > thanks, > james jones > > > > "cruellaplc" <cruellaplc@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:361DB182-65EB-41E6-B21F-293DB9F36735@mic…

DL360 G3 server boots after 30 minutes
by Guest Tony Davis- 3 replies

I have performed various boot scenarios to locate the slow boot time. I have found out that if I have USB enabled in the BIOS, then i must have a USB device plugged in to my server for it to boot normally. If I unplug the device and reboot(multiple times) it hangs after the splash screen with the animated progress bar. If I leave USB enabled, boot into safe mode, it hangs at acpitabl.dat.... Now get this.. If I disable USB in the BIOS, then it boots up fine. NO hangs at all. Only problem is, I can't use any USB devices. Also, while windows is running, if I unplug the USB device, I get an unknown USB device error, which leads me to believe my USB…

Authentication tracking
by Guest Jim- 0 replies

Hi, I have a 2k3 Server (std, sp2) with couple of 3rd part apps to track application usage (web, ftp, etc.). Within the application there is a file that has a hard coded username and password. The user who's username and password is being used within the app, has his account locked out when he changes his password. The developer does not recall where he might have placed his credentials (BAT, CFG, etc.). There are no services running using his account. I believe that this server sends the authentication request to run the file/app/process but eventually times out. I have checked the Event Viewer but I am not sure if this application or process h…

I need your help in understanding how to format and reinstall Windows XP Professional. My friend Jon has limited funds and needs to be able to do this himself. I cannot help him by going there because he lives too far away. I have a dual-boot with 98 Second Edition for old Dos games and applications on a C:\ drive while having Windows XP Professional as my D:\ drive for regular business and most current games and programs like Itunes. I know it is easy in 98 Second Edition to go into DOS and format and then use the start up disk and reinstall the operating system. How is this accomplished in XP Professional. I have had to do an overinstall of XP Pr…
