Permissions for Administrative alerts
by Guest Patrik Lundin- 2 replies

Is it possible to give normal user accounts permissions to send administrative alerts without placing them into the administrators group ? I looked all over the group policy editor but couldnt find anything that would allow me to do that, couldnt find anyhting on a google search either. If not what would you suggest as good replacement for this functionality that we can install ? We use it mainly for sending short messages when people are logged into the server through remote desktop. Thank you PL.

Is it possible to set Disk Quotas to Group rather than Individual User, because I am going to set more than 100 users disk quotas, if I have to set it individually, it is time costly.... In addition , that File Server is running Windows 2003 Server (not R2 and SP2), in Standalone mode (not joined to AD) Thanks.

Session Moniker in Windows 2000
by Guest Jeremy Drake- 3 replies

The documentation about using session monikers (in particular http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/aa383258.aspx) says that "This feature is available on Windows 2000 and later". I am getting error 0x80040154 (Class not registered) when I attempt to run the code on windows 2000 (even win2k server with terminal services enabled), while the same code works properly on XP and Vista. I have been picking apart the generated moniker, and I see that when I parse my moniker (which looks like "Session:0!clsid:{CLSID}") I get back a moniker whose CLSID is {00000309-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} which is a Composite Moniker. I call the Enum method on this, an…

computer adminstrator but no permission to run programs
by Guest Doug- 0 replies
The PC user is set a scomputer administrator but cannot execue any program. The message says no permission. Explorer lets me see the program on the C: drive, but it will not execute. The message is that windows cannot run. I've done a full spyware and virus check but found nothing. In Safe mode, Administrator can execute. Creating a new user with admin privileges, then reboot in normal mode, that user cannot execute any program either. What do I look for? -- Doug

Why do I have blue files? They are not compressed, I checked firs
by Guest dkstockstill- 10 replies

I'm fairly sure I have some type of virus because the files didn't change color until I was looking at and throwing out old floppies. I checked the folder and the compression option is not checked. My virus software said that it caught and cleaned the file, but ever since then files turn blue. If you rename them, they stay black for a little while. I have McAfee and it says my drive is clean. I also have disappearing windows components. I had to reinstall outlook express yesterday. What on earth should I do? -- That''s what I said!

Screen freeze at start up
by Guest gerard- 5 replies
I have had screen freeze up problems for a few weeks. I tried to use some of the solutions in earlier exchanges I saw on this site (e.g., delete damaged programs and cached files) but the problem persists. I now can log on using "last best known configuration" but, even then, only after a couple of freeze up instances. I can only stop these by turning off the power at the power strip switch and turn on the system in "last best known configuration" mode. The problem now seems to be confined to trying to open windows while, earlier, it could happen anytime. Any help would be appreciated. Gerard

Windows XP Activation Pending?
by Guest Chuck T- 2 replies

I have just discovered on a Dell Dimension 8250 I bought used about a year ago in a system information listing, under "Activation Status" the statement "Activation Pending (30 days remaining)". There is no Windows Activation icon in the system tray, and in System Tools there is no "Activate Windows" button, icon, or option. How can I determine if this Windows XP is activated or not, and if not how do I activate it, and if so, why is that "Activation Pending..." statement there? The version is 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600. -- Chuck T

Hello, I'm using the built in remote access for Windows 2003 R2 SP2. On the previous version of 2003, Log Off was an option under start - I don't seem to have that any more even when logging in as administrator. Do I have to do something special? Thanks

Downgrade BDC to simple server
by Guest Jean Paul Mertens- 4 replies

Hello to all, I have a problem with a BDC (windows 2000 server) who does not see that the PDC (SBS 2000) is back on-line. I have got my PDC crashed, and for some reason the NT-Mirror had stopped some time ago. I have taken the PDC out of the network, and the BDC took over the security with no problem. I have put my (early stopped) mirror disk as master and restored alle backups so that the PDC is ok. I have put the PDC back in the network and had to disconnect (temporary set them to workgroup) all workstations and servers from the domain and then reconnect them to the domain. So far so good until I tried to do the same with my BDC but he keeps saying that there…

how to get rid of installer
by Guest JClark- 5 replies
Hello Group: My new laptop (Sony) came with a trial version of MS Office 2007. I didn't want it, so I uninstalled it and installed a newly purchased version of MS Office Small Business 2003. Now when I open Outlook (2003), I get a message from the Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007, presumably the installer, telling me that the feature I am trying to use is on a network source that is unavailable. On line search provides detailed steps for getting rid of the installer for the 2007 Beta, but not precisely for my current situation, with a different version rather than a a beta. Apologies if this is posted to the wrong group, and I'll be happy to look …

I am unable to run Windows 98 SE in normal mode. Fortunately, I can run it in safe mode. When I try to run Windows 98 SE in normal mode then I receive a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death --- grin). The windows fatal exception is as follows: Fatal exception 0D occurred at 0147:0000BC9D I have a dual-boot with XP Professional which still works great. However, I also want 98SE to work great as well. Thanks for your help and I look forward to getting 98SE up and running at full speed. Well PCR, you were right that eventually XP Pro. would hurt 98SE I guess -- grin. Thanks in advance for all of the help and I am looking forward to posting here again via M…

Still using the old reliable horse, Win98 SE. I install a DVD Player and when I play a DVD movie, I can see the pictures but there is no sound coming out of the system. However, when I insert an audio CD, there is sound . (and there is also sound if the audio CD is play using the default MP in the win 98) . May I know what is missing here. Thanks
