When I setup my computers in my home I was having no problems with seeing all the computers on the network. I had all the drives mapped out and everything worked great. In the past month I have not been able to access these drives and I can longer map the drives. Nothing has changed on the computers except for the automatic updates that come down from Microsoft. Can someone offer some advice. Thanks in advance Joe

How to Install W2K on a Modern System (Lessons Learned the Hard Way)
by Guest W. Watson- 0 replies

Rev. Aug. 18, 2007 I've learned a bit more about this, and it's reflected in this revision post. [start of an Aside on How This Got Started] Learned from various sources including the thread I started here, "Can W2K Be Installed on SATA Drives?" Let me start with an explanation of "the Hard Way". I have a P5NSLI ASUS motherboard that supports both IDE and SATA controllers. The key word is "both". I wanted to install W2K on the STATA HD, a 320G WS SATA drive. I had some fun trying to get to a point where the OS install asked how I wanted to partition the drive. I was stumped by this window that came up in the install: ============================== 76294…

IE and Firefox missing background/layout graphics on website
by Guest www.jrdtech.net- 0 replies

Alright this has me stumped. I'm fixing a clients computer and noticed that when he goes onto websites its missing the layout/ background defined that are defined in the CSS document for the site. Regular html defined images still show. The websites display normally in Opera however and if I logon to Windows under a different profile name it works in IE and Firefox. So the problem is specific to that Windows profile. I've disabled all 3rd party virus, spyware, firewalls...after I ran a full scan of course(nothing too serious). Nothing in Hijackthis out of the ordinary. For IE has yahoo toolbar installed, and Firefox has google toolbar. My next option w…

Hi, Up to know I dual-boot XP Pro SP2 and Ubuntu 7.04 where GRUB takes over the boot sequencing and selection....I partially reinstalled XP a couple of days ago and the MBR was taken away from GRUB so that now it is "windows" that shows the options of OS and of course it does not include ubuntu yet... Is it possible to edit boot.ini to add ubuntu to the list? it is in a extfs2 partition of the same HD in a laptop.....or is reinstalling GRUB the only option to dual boot? Thanks

Format Hard drive
by Guest Michael Q- 3 replies

I have two internal hard drives in my computer - one a WD and the other a Samsung. I was having problems with the WD master drive, which required a repair of XP SP2, but instead I mistakenly installed XP SP2 on the Samsung (slave) drive. In order to fix the WD master I disconnected the Samsung from inside the case and have now resolved the problem with the WD master drive and it is working fine. However when I connect the Samsung with its copy of XP (installed by mistake) the machine boots up on it and not the WD. How can I remove XP from the Samsung and boot up on the WD? There is no data on the Samsung that cannot be replaced. -- Michael Q

Hi, My Windows XP Pro with SP2 box couldn't get DHCP offer when I tried to boot it from network. But it does not have problem with getting DHCP offer from the same DHCP server after the OS is up and running. I looked at Windows Network Monitor when I tried to network-boot the machine, I saw the machine sent a DHCP request and the DHCP server replied with a correct DHCP offer, but somehow the machine did not get that offer. Could anyone help me out? thx Yifei

Windows 2003 server standard edition Group Policy Object Editor bu
by Guest Valdas Adomaitis- 1 reply

As it is known Windows 2003 Server comes with preinstalled Terminal Services so you can use Remote Desktop for Administration. As I was reading manuals and playing with configuration I came up to an interesting conclusion: If you use group policy object editor to change a security policy from default – set a tick on “Define these policy settings” and define something, then you apply to save your settings, afterwards you UNSET “Define these policy settings” tick and apply again the settings you made first STAYS, but under the group policy object editor’s policy settings column it says “Not Defined”. IMHO if I unset “Define these policy settings” the object…
