IE Continuously Attempts To Use Dial Connectiion
by Guest heymoe1- 9 replies

This is driving me crazy. I use wireless connectivity to my DSL line. Whenever I start IE, or when I try to navigate to various Internet sites, this Dial-Up connection window pops up, and a connection is attempted via a dial modem. I am already connected via wireless router and DSL. I have made sure that NEVER CONNECT is chosen with all dial configurations, but it just keeps going....., and going......., and going into the "dial" mode. What can I di ti stop this insanity? Thanks in advance for any advice! -- Mike

Terminal Services, Active Directory, Domains
by Guest DiFFeReNT- 3 replies

I have a computer running Windows Server 2003 that I want to setup to be used exclusively as a Terminal Server. Basically I need to allow: a) Macs on the local network to remote desktop into the server (PC- only apps) and b) PCs/Macs outside the local network (WAN) to remote desktop into the server (access same two apps) It has to allow multiple users to be connected simultaneously. In addition, all terminal services users need to be "locked down", so only the two applications can be accessed, and the rest of the system can't be tampered with. After a failed Group Policy experiment, I now know that I need to use Active directory to setup security measures,…

LSASS Memory Issue
by Guest Chris Daley - Dwebs Ltd- 9 replies

Hi, Bit of an odd one this, we have two windows 2003 standard edition sp2 boxes, both had been up for around 30 days, then they were rebooted for the last lot of windows updates. When they came back online i started to notice the lsass process using large amounts of memory, currently after 10 days sitting at over 400mb. One box is the primary domain controller the other is a secondary, both run IIS and various other applications. I haven’t found as yet a way to reduce the amount of memory in use. Has anyone else seen this recently I did a google and a couple of people reported the same issue in July but didn’t find a solution.

Windows 98 stuck in safe mode
by Guest Katrina- 7 replies

Hi I've just moved and unpacked the computer and discovered some problems with my windows 98 machine: halfway through startup it starts over and then it hangs with an hourglass cursor for a long time and then when it finally loads up, it's stuck in safe mode. Part of the problem is that the computer only takes a serial mouse because the PS/2 port broke off a long time ago. The serial adapter and mouse came up missing in the move (I'm sure I packed it somewhere safe - a little too safe). The computer has worked fine without the mouse in the past so I don't think that's the problem. I've tried a clean boot, but it doesn't reveal any problems wit…

The disappearing problems
by Guest b11_- 0 replies

Suppose you had problems which disappeared after some time. Situation 1 I boot partition G, which has Wxp, and eventually I try, repeatedly, to run an app, which has run many times before, but it just starts-up then the desktop appears. I shutdown then boot partition F where I work for a while then shutdown F and boot G. I then try to run the app and discover that it runs just fine. Situation 2 I try to boot partition H, which has Vista and has booted many times before, but the boot process only reaches the Microsoft "moving indicator". I tryed booting in safe mode. I tryed booting using last known good configuration. But the results were failure. I…

ActiveX

Hi, I got an error message when trying to do a windows update. It directed me to an article (# 319585) which ultimately directed me to delete the files named: iuctl.dll and iuengine.dll Then it said to go to the Windows Update web page to install new copies of ActiveX Controls. I tried to do this but couldn't find how or where to get this download for Windows 98. Any advice?

I am experiencing a weird problem with RDP... when I minimize a session from the Connection Bar, it insists upon maximizing on its own about every five minutes forcing me to reminimize. Anyone know what could be causing this (no other application behaves this way)?

I have Win2kPro SP4 and I want to set the main HD for compression. It's only 30gigs and I am just using it for VHD's on VPC 2004. My objective is to use VPC for multimedia (watching videos on the internet, other for browsing the internet ang another for testing new software, becuase I don't wont to clutter up my main drive with spyware, etc and left over uninstalled software fragments. Will I encounter any problems with my HD being in compress mode?
