Microsoft CA
by Guest topokin- 3 replies

We are having NT 4.0 Domain and need to introduce Microsoft CA. Actually only the Domain Controllers are still being NT, all other systems are W2k3, W2K, or XP. Is it possible or advisable to introduce a stand-alone "Microsoft CA" on one of the W2K3 member server, or it has to be on the NT Domain controller. Thanks,

Shutdown info and windows update info
by Guest Justin Rich- 0 replies

is there a way to easily pull this info from a group of servers? I would imagine there is some application out there that will do this for me? I would just like to be able to track how often the server is shutdown.. how long it is down.. and if the shutdown was for auto updates (I haven't looked but I assume when you hit the restart button from a windows update it logs this info for you) we are also looking in to a central monitoring system (system center, altiris) but from the research ive done so far I don't see these kind of reports. Thanks Justin

remote desktop for administration and offline file option
by Guest tree leafs- 1 reply

Hi, I heard that for a windows server 2003 the remote desktop for administration and offline file option are mutually exclusive. Does this mean for a file server that holds users home directories where offline file option is desirable we can't remotely logon to it for administrative purpose? Thanks in advance,

Can't check email without restarting
by Guest Sheryl in TX- 3 replies

I am using XP SP2 - I first noticed a problem a couple of months ago when I had checked email when I started up my computer then closed Outlook Express. When I restarted it to check email, the program froze after selecting the "send/receive" button. After that, my MSN Messenger began doing the same thing - I could sign on after I started up the computer but if I closed the program and opened it again later, it would not sign on. I realized today that IE is behaving the same way - it will work after a reboot but if I close it and re-open, it will not connect to the internet. I use Firefox without that problem. I don't remember installing any programs…

Renaming boot disk and reinstallation of XP
by Guest Marten Nahlin- 1 reply

Hello, I have recently built a new PC with a new disk among other things. After install I notice that the disk is designated I: so i come here to see what to do. The answer I have found is to do first remove other disks (zip etc) and then a new install of XP. There seems to be no other way (that I would like to try) to change the name into C:. Now the question is do I need to do a clean install, together with reformating the drive or will a repair installation do? Thank you.

A friend has accidentally put a photo on to her desktop. It came from a program that she has called Picasa. How do we get rid of this from her desktop? Thanks -- Roger
