Can I just pick up any internal drive I see in the store? Also I have an Xp instalation disc that came with the computer. It says Emachines on the disc. Is this all I need to re-install the Operating System on the New drive? Any tips are appreciated.

I have Windows XP Pro on a Dell Dimension 8200. I have had in my possession a Via Video Desktop Conferencing set but was not able to install it until now because I previously had only a dial-up connection. Now I have FIOS. I have installed the hardware and software as instructed but I get a message “Failed to register COM objects.” I did find this URL: http://support.olisystems.com/TIPS/OLI-Tips38%20Re-register%20COM%20Objects.pdf which explains how to reregister COM objects in an OLI product (which is not my product). How do I go about solving MY registration problem? Is this a Windows question or a “Via Video” question? Thank you for any insight p…

by Guest Chym- 1 reply

My hard drive crashed and the repair people were able to save my data and programs. They reinstalled Windows XP using their own disc and registered to: is now User where before it was registered to me ie. Sally Jo. All programs work except a database I use which is locked, I think because the computor does not recognize User as having authorization to access the data base. Is there a way I can restore the original Registered to or a way I can open my data base? -- Chym

In the C partition, there is only 1 windows folder WINDOW Although I can set the time to 5 sec instead of 30 sec in the boot.ini, but I preferit does not show any " presence" of 2nd xp. Is there anything wrong with the mobo/bios?

I have AT&T DSL and have gone to a wireless internet connection. AT&T sent me an e-mail offer to upgrade my account from a BASIC pack to PRO. Faster connections! OF course the cost is more. My question, since I am using wireless, do I need to upgrade or am I getting the fastest speeds already by using wireless? Thanks!

I having a problem with getting WindowsXP to play a certain wav file. When I goto "sounds and audio devices" and bring up the "properties" box then goto "sounds" I try to get "start Windows" to play a wav file with the opening theme from "Star Trek Next Generation" It loads and plays when I test it with the "play" button, but when I shut down windows and re-open it, the wav only plays for like 4 notes then stops...Windows goes on to load up without any problems. When I set "start Windows" with another wav file, like the them from the "orignal Star Trek" it works fine...plays all the way. I have played the "STNG" wav file on my Windows media player, and on my i…

Problem deleting messages from Outlook Express 6
by Guest removethisbit- 2 replies

I have recently returned to using Outlook Express 6 after spending the past 3 months evaluating Thunderbird. A problem has arisen in deleting unwanted messages from OE. On about a third of all incoming messages I am unable to delete them after reading and no matter what I do in adjusting settings, I have failed to correct this. Have searched Microsoft’s help pages for a remedy without success. Any advice will be much appreciated.
