I have changed my Disk Defragmenter utility to a much mor epowerful one and I am wondering now if I should get rid of the one that comes with windows. It is probably taking up otherwise usable space on my hard drive and I don't want that. How much is Disk Defragmenter taking up, and how can I get rid of it?

Adding New Disks
by Guest Matthew White- 5 replies

Hi, I have a client with a Dell server running W2K3 SBE. He has no hardware RAID, the RAID is setup through Windows Disk Management. He is out of space and needs to add new disks. When I have this issue with a server that has a RAID controller, I can easily add new disks, let the mirror rebuild, and then extend the partition. However, here I don't have this option. Is there a recommended way to add 2 new disks to the current Windows Mirrored set without having to rebuild the box? Any help is greatly appreciated. Regards, Matthew White

This Briefcase requires a newer version of the software
by Guest thecreator- 0 replies

Hi All, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. I have installed the Evaluation version, which is fully updated. However, using a Briefcase to contain my Downloads, rather than a simple Download Folder, I can open the New Briefcase on the Desktop with no problems. With the Briefcase closed, I attempted to save a download into the Briefcase Folder, so the Briefcase is not in use, but I get that message in the Subject line. The operating system is installed in a seperate partition, by itself and is not sharing anything at this time. -- thecreator

A new problem
by Guest Menno Hershberger- 9 replies

I really don't know what I'd Google for, so I'll just explain this one. I'm working on a computer that was all bogged down + had a moderate amount of spyware. I took a pile of stuff out of startup and now it's running pretty snappy-like. It's an older Dell, 1.8Ghz with 256Mb ram. XP Home, SP2 up to date. I downloaded free Avast with IE from download.com. It came reasonably fast. I installed it and then went to their registration page. The page only partially loaded and then just sat there. Well, sometime that page is slow so I decided to try later. I had installed Adaware earlier, but couldn't get the updates. That happens too sometimes, so I installed Supe…

Hi, My WIndows XP machine recently blue screened on me. I was able to copy my profiles for FIrefox and Outlook etc over to my D Drive. I then formatted my C Drive and reloaded Windows XP. WHen it was installed, I was unable to access my D, E or F drives. Debugging Login Explorer Hangs
by Guest tim_milstead@yahoo.co.uk- 0 replies

When I login as any user (limited or admin) explorer occassionally hangs and the login only proceeds if I kill explorer using the task manager and the run explorer. I have removed as many startup programs as possible and it still does it. I don't expect anyone to diagnose my problem, but I was wondering if there is any way of trouble shooting what the problem is. The even viewer contains nothing of use and sysinternals process explorer programs don't help either. Is there some way of debugging explorer to see what is going on? Thank in advance, Tim.

Why can't I update XP anymore?
by Guest nomail1983@hotmail.com- 5 replies

I can no longer update XP. Any idea what might be wrong? When I go to Windows Update (http://www.update.microsoft.com/ windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us), click on Express, it tries to validate my Windows system. That fails. Why!? It gives me the option to try an "alternate validation". That works(!). But when it throws me back to the window and I click on Express again, it again tries to validate my Windows system the original way, which fails again. Things I have tried.... Disabled Norton Internet Security. Reset IE6 Security and Advanced options to their defaults (medium level security). In IE6, cleared history and deleted cookies and files…
